Is this bot traffic on fresh blog?

Hey there,
I just started new blog. I have published around 15 articles so far and wasn't even worried about traffic as it's too early to expect any. Today I accidentally opened Google Analytics and shocked to see the stats! I see almost 400 unique visits to my homepage and all are from China. My blog is US targetted and in English. I am sure this can't be "real real" traffic but not sure what it is. Is it a bot or AI crawlers? Anyone have any such experience? How to filter them out as I am worried they will influence my strategies as I start generating actual real traffic.

Someone has used your blog to test a tool. New blogs sometimes run into situations like this, I’ve experienced it myself before.

It’s totally normal for a new blog to get some bot traffic early on think of it as search engines and crawlers checking things out. Real human visitors usually start rolling in once your posts get indexed and shared.

Yeah looks like bots. Fresh blogs get hit with that all the time, nothing to stress about.

That's a common problem in the blogging journey. I have faced this many times, but now I am not worried about this. In my beginning time, it gave me too much pain, so I was trying to resolve it, and I was crazy for this, but at the end of the time, I never solved it 100%. There are many tools to solve it, but not a single tool solves it 100%, so I am not serious about this. Just try to enrich my content regularly.

You can't tell by these pics, you need at least to run a sql query on CF if you are using them, or on your server.

But if your site is not in Chinese, yeah, then that's bot noise, fake engagement traffic and such. You'd need user agent and a couple more insights to know for sure

well engagement it below 5 seconds but I could see events around 2k. so the bots are scrolling the page is what I think.

Yes, the bots can scroll the pages depending on the settings.

Well I am in the business of making bots and I have some which pass as human, but for precise estimations, you need some more serious logs, CF is also relatively limited, you can, however, run very precise fingerprinting on your own website, it's perhaps some 100 lines of code on your server to get a very accurate reading.

I would do that anyway and harden any server and implement fail2ban on such and ssh brute force attempts, if you have ssh access to your server, you will be very surprised how hostile the Internet is.

I would always, for a website you like to operate for longer implement these 2, firstly for security and secondly to see the bots and ban then JIT, as they pollute and water down your insights about the traffic.

GA is also relatively superficial.

For example ssh brute force or any such attempts should be fail2ban in any one case anyway, also makes the world a better place.

But if you're on a shared hosting, you probably have to rely on the top layer security provider.

Keep in mind, if you can't ssh into your stuff, it's not yours.

well I am not that technical and what you have written has gone tangent mostly! for security I do have installed Wordfense which shows me good amount of attempts being nullified. apart form that I have no clue how to do that and hence was looking for a simple way that a non technical person like me can click couple of buttons in analytics and filter out these noises. but what you have written shows there is nothing as simple as I am looking for!

Aha, WordPress site, then.

Check if wp and the host permit a CF install or if the whole shared server is behind CF. Wp has these extensions for everything, or you could inject a script some place. I can check later, since that's actually interesting, I usually never do wp sites

That kind of traffic is common on new sites and is almost always bots, not real users.

yes unfortunately they're bots, it happens a lot with new blogs, try to use bots filter tools
