i create websites and wondering if I put a page on each new clients websites, with links to all other client with key terms, sort of cross linking each other for seo purposes, will there be any consequence? Is it bad practice or just on the shades of black side?

I think it will be bad practise if you do this without informing the client/s of the website/s you will be cross linking. I don't think this is BH but as a web designer and developer I will never do something to a clients website without asking them first. In the end, it is about what they want and what they want from their website, not about your SEO aspirations.

Maybe you could create a link in the copyright footer that says something like "See other websites created by *webdesigner*" that links back to your "web design" portfolio section of your website (that have these websites you designed on the page). Clients might be more ok with that approach :).

If you're talking about purposefully flowing high PR to low PR pages unrelated to the main site then you're not supposed to do that and it's against Google's webmaster guidelines.

However, if all the sites are sort of in the same ballpark or a niche and it's reasonable to said have links, I don't think anyone will think wrongly of it.

It's when you have a PR5 site about kitten mittens linking to viagra and online poker is when it's obvious that a link has been sold / PR is trying to be manipulated.

The G will not do anything negative to your website/websites if you are fixing PR within your sites or pages. Even if you are structuring any link wheel or pyramid.

Google is a search engine it does what you tell it.

My bad. I thought he was talking about sending PR to like external sites.

If your client's sites are all in unrelated niches it would look very dodgy to link them up. If they're in similar niches but on the same ip or with the same registrar, it would look like you're creating your own mininet. I wouldn't do it.
