Is this an algorithm penalty or manual action?

All of my rankings disappeared overnight for a specific site for basically all keywords. The site is still indexed in google but I am not in the top 100 for any keywords anymore, it all disappeared. Currently the manual action section says "no issues found". Does the manual action message show up instantly when you get hit by a penalty? Or is this an algorithmic penalty?

Manual action message can take a few days until it appears.
 
Be patience for few days. I think it recover soon. Have you changed or update recently to your site?

How old is the site?
 
Disappearing all the keywords overnight indicates something serious here. But patience is the key. Just wait and watch for a week or so. Let us know what happens after that - if the ranking is recovered or not.
 
There's an unconfirmed Google update, seen more people complaining about losing ranks yesterday.
This might be the cause.

First of all, you choose a unique keyword and write a unique article. if you want that my website to rank on the top google pages so you need guest posting services this is the easy way to rank your website with this original and safe method
 
Wait for few days. Sometimes this kind of issues will happen. Also, have you updated your site? If yes it might be the reason too. If not, just wait and focus on adding more high quality articles and links.
 
It's algo penalty. Do you have lot of affiliate/transactional content compared to info content?
 
I think you can wait for a couple of days. It might be recovered.

Yes it's an affiliate site and most of the content is promotional but it hasn't been an issue, I believe this may be link related.

Are other people just have their sites disappear from the SERP's completely? With google updates usually you move up or down a couple slots but remain in the top 100. I was tracking 40 main keywords in the top 100 and they have all vanished entirely.

nope no updates at all. At first I was seeing a little bit of positive movement on some keywords then Bam - all webpages gone from the top 100 on my target KW's. I will give it some time but as someone else said, all keywords disappearing overnight is not a good sign.
 
When did it happen?

I have a website that dropped out of the top 100 around September 25-26 and now it is coming back because Google is launching another algo update.

Check this video for the reason.
I will add that once a core update is rolled out it gets added into real time updates and it can hit you any time.
 
if you don't get the manual penalty message, check this:
what is the number of pages sites indexed using site:domain.com?
if this is 3-5, this means pages were de-indexed due to non-quality enough content.
if this is > 100's, this means you need to pump more backlinks.
PS - improving content is never a bad idea...
 
If you have seen a significant drop in traffic after a Google update, it is likely an algorithm penalty. However, if you have received a notification from Google about a manual action, then it is a manual action.
