I want to register a free Australian url

I had a idea where you go thru the phone book and find a ad with no website

Now you register (campanyname)


Now contact them to sell them there name possibly with a website

Will this work do you think ??

are you going to buy all of the extensions of the name eg .com .com.au .net .net.au?

Im not sure if people will respond well to this type of marketing.
 
Really does depend on the niche.

Have a backup plan. If you cannot monetise by selling the site to a business, can you rent space or sell aff products on a ranked site?
 
The idea does not seem to be feasible as the company may not even use your extension and go for other available ones.

I think its a fine idea. If you really want to make it work, set up the most basic web page with just the same information as their phone book advertisement and offer it to them for like $99.00. Tell them that businesses are expected to have their contact information on websites these days, and with this site, they will never have to do anything else, and if they need their address/phone number/hours changed in the future, you will do it for free! Then just put in on some crappy free hosting and forget about it. They will forget your contact info and you can basically ignore them after they give you money. Some of you guys are assuming that most people know: 1) How to buy a website 2) What a "domain extension" is 3) What the internet is about. That is foolish on your behalf.
 
Hey, many of the companies have brand name in the market they do not need their site and actually some times they need it very much that they pays 1000$ to purchase their named domain.

I think you would get around 2 to 2.5% success rate in it.

You could save some money and just spoof the URL. That way you only have to buy it if they agree to your service. I bet most people won't bother checking for extensions (and, thus, notice that you have yet to purchase the URL).

Taking legal action isn't so easy for a small company, and most people do not know the law, and also probably their name isn't copyright/trademarked if they are a small local company.
 
Maybe it would sell better if you gave them the domain for free if they buy your services
 
I think it could work. It really depends on how well you sell though. Have a script ready and prepare yourself for a tough sale. Cold calling businesses SUCKS- but money can be made there.
 
I would recommend to call them and ask if they need a website, if yes then build the website for them.
 
Hi all well my net run out i on my phone
so here is what i will do i will build them for free
have 2 sites built and up for 2 companies (give them it all free under the prospect of getting and good referance and portfolio to use to sell future sites
if i get the contract for the free mobile sites ill post them here
 
It depends on your niche to be honest, but it seems like it'd cost alot of startup money.
 
You could do this but you would have to get .com domains which cost $10. You could also register info domains but this isn't a good idea for companies.. Don't you want your client to be happy?
