Noaaa Brother !!! you're going to fall with the first update, Focus only on the content , when you get a good number of hits you can build some backlinks ( guest posting , Niche edit ..) but stay away from PBN, PBN is used for high-risk niches, adults, gambling and ... not for a dogs blog .

PBN is just an aged domain with good link profile from the same niche. You buy someone's domain (business) and redirect some part of it to your website. It's legal. Buying typical links from BHW is far away from this.

You can go with guest posts if you like to spend 200 per link. Everyone has their own strategy.

How the hell do you find 200-article ideas? I know I'm doing something wrong here, but I can't find 200 unique article ideas for a few niches xD

Competition? Semrush content marketing tab? Keywords? Pillar page + long form page for each topic.

A rule is that if you write content yourself, you should be able to come up with 100 ideas before you choose your niche.

There is a big difference between PBN and redirect, Redirection is not as dangerous as PBN ... but if it was just a domain, it no longer gives results (based on my own experience and the experience of many other people)

I keep finding keywords, I always go for a broad niche. e.g. dog, not siberian husky. Or laptops, not HP laptops. There are always tons of keywords that are low comp. I go for anything with 40 kw vol and more. It ends up being more anyway since there are multiple variations of each keyword.

I think that's not failed and you probably need to try other ways of monetizing the site. Such as accepting guest post with authoritybuilder or outreachmama

A niche site can never "fail" unless it gets a penalty.

I think you just have not aggressively created content for it.

It's only been 14 months old.

40 articles is not enough.

Also, 1300 words, on average, is kind of middle of the road.

It doesn't really tell me about the quality of your content.

Quantity, after all, is not quality.

If I were to rehab this website, what I would do is first, make sure that I interlink every single one of my existing articles to each other using calls-to-action.

In other words, when somebody finds themselves on one of your pages, you call them to action to visit other pages.

So you stretch out one visit into many page views.

This can increase your income because the more pages they view, the higher the likelihood that they will click on an ad.

The second thing I would do is to create more content.

Sure, you're targeting long tail keywords, and I'm assuming that these are questions, but find related questions and put them together in the same article and make sure that you truly deliver on the search intent behind those questions.

Don't just mention the keyword every once in a while to stuff your content.

That doesn't work, at least not anymore.

The third thing that I would do is I would build a mailing list.

Please understand that the vast majority of people that find themselves on your site will never come back.

That's just the cold hard reality of blogging.

You have to find a way to get them to come back, and that's where your list comes in.

Of course, this would mean coming up with a freebie offer like a free ebook or a checklist or some sort of gimmick to get them to sign up for your mailing list.

Once you get that, then you have a self-sustaining traffic machine. People on your list are encouraged to share your content on social media.

The fourth thing that I would do is I will also hire a virtual assistant from low-cost places like Fiverr or if you're looking for quota-based assistants, places like Cognoplus to share my stuff and promote it on social media.

Don't give up.

Forty pieces of content is not enough.

Try to shoot for 100 to 150 posts.

Also, make sure that your content is better than your competitors.

Thanks blackbeans for your suggestions. They all seem very useful and I will try to follow them, if not on this site on another one that I want to build.
I like the idea of the mailing list as well. I have heard many bloggers say how having that can be a real game changer.
I haven’t added anymore content on the site, but I bought a backlink from a site that has a 40+ DA. Nothing too exciting happened though, maybe just a slight increase in visits.
I need to decide if I want to continue putting my efforts into this site or not. Maybe Google just hates it… and me!

I see this with hashtags on social media too.

Example:
Travel hashtag on Instagram got oversaturated with bot accounts. When I realized this, I switched up my strategy. I started prioritizing low competition hashtags and was happy with the results.

You need to solve that problem of motivation. I understand getting disciplined to work on something that won't bring money within 2 years makes no sense - it's counterintuitive.

I would find a niche where I can monetize using different ways than SEO and use blog as a tool for long term profits. Maybe you need to find a new niche or find a way to quickly monetize your current niche.

If your niche is white hat, content is high quality, you probably can find an opportunity in social media.
