Why? You cant add placement ads/publisher ads any way without ranking/traffic.

wouldn't call it blackhat, it is what everyone does no secret and nothing sneaky just what works. Why advertise if you have no audience to advertise too.

I think he believes it is black because pages will be originally ranking without links.
The problem is that once google has indexed your site, it will be crawled again a lot in many cases (specially those sites that are receiving visits through Chrome).
So it will pick your affiliate links in a couple of days, if not hours, and reindex the page with the new version
So not a great deal unless your affiliate links are ultra high CPA and short-lasting.

So do you mean it will not effect ranking if I add amazon or clickbank link or pretty link 301 redirects from the beginning vs after ranking?

You should think about monetization only when you have enough traffic. So, it's perfectly normal and there is no blackhat strategy involved in it.

It shouldn't effect ranking, it's common to schedule posts ahead of time with affiliate links already inserted.

It's something that has been in a use for a long time now, so it's definitely not some new technique. It is pretty common practice in fact, I wouldn't necessarily declare it as a Black Hat SEO as these activities aren't forbidden, I am just not sure how successful they are and of they show some good metrics.
