Is there way to trace spammers?

Hi,

I realised that someone blasted spammy links onto me and wondering if there is a way to trace the fella back?

I realised and checked my competitor backlinks that they were all blasted too. Someone is using underhand methods trying to get first page by blasting the rest. Unethical bastard!

With the right resources, the right budget and the right contacts, there are very few people in this world who are untraceable.

I doubt that in your case though, it would be worth the effort it would take, for the result you are looking for.

It's the dog-eat-dog world out there... The toughest, the smartest, and the most ruthless dog wins the serp race.

Just get few more domains and start using churn burn, Rank 5 to 6 domains if keyword is profitable, I did this few times.

If you established a high DA domain you shouldn't worry if the spam is just little, but you can always analyze your links and devote them in google webmasters tool

Disavow the links in WMT. A few links won't affect your site if the backlink profile is organic and strong enough.

Great answer. Almost everyone are trcaeable, but in this case its just doesnt worth the effort.

Unfortunately for you, the attacker is several hops away from being traced, without the cooperation of the middle men in between you both, you're really at a dead end. Even if you had an IP of the offending computer that launched the spam attack, to what end? It's not tied to a particular website.

Let's say it was possible for you to trace backwards though and you had full cooperation from the middlemen, you would need to get hold administrator of the website featuring the spam links and have them check their website logs to find out the IP address that corresponds with when the link was placed. It's also likely that a proxy was used to place the links, if they used a proxy company like squid proxies etc your path is a little easier...you would need to find out the range of IP addresses that connect to those proxies (providing they keep those types of records), again making the assumption that they would cooperate and somehow figure out which is the relevant one...that's a lot easier if they used a dedicated proxy.

It's also a real possibility that they used scraped proxies, if that's the case then then you really are at a dead end, I'd be amazed if you could get in touch with the owner of a proxy server. Many public proxy servers are run by unknowing hosts (who have left the port open for some reason) even if you could get their logs, you would need to somehow discern the offending IP address that you're interested in from the doubtless other thousands, practically a dead end.

Without the cooperation of major law enforcement, which you are extremely unlikely to get because spamming is a legal grey area and you are just one of thousands of people that this happens to... the above is difficult enough to be impossible.

Your best bet is to ask 'who benefits', is there 1 site on the front page that remains un-spammed? Does one particular site look heavily optimised or 'shady', if so, then there's your likely suspect...even then, you could never be sure and may end up hurting a legitimate webmaster.

tl;dr: cut your losses and keep it clean, whether you believe in Karma or not, in the long run, no one benefits from negative SEO.

Days have changed, have atleast 5 domains these days in the same niche.
So, if one gets neg SEO.. wait and bring the other site to the top..

You cannot track spammers and the problem you are facing is a common one, thanks to Google.

Sounds like you blasted all your competition and are now worried of being caught.

Why should i change my domain? I have dis avowed those links but based on what you say if a domain is neg seo, and every time is neg seo I've to keep changing domains?

I'd probably ignore the links, but there have been times where some smart guy figured out that the spam was coming from some guy on Fiverr and was able to get the Fiverr guy to give up his client's name.
