Is there any use for finding compromised computers on a bot net?

I was having issues with my server before.
After going through the logs I found the created directory, and even the backdoor control panel. So I investigated more and tracked the same thing down to other computers and found the same control panel. I had no use for the info at that time but I know I can track down more if someone has an idea for a use for them for me?

Use them as proxies?

You do and you risk getting blamed for whatever dirty the other guy has been doing. Not worth it.

that is how little of an understanding I have of it other than tracking them out of shear annoyance.
