Is there any harm from buying google map citations?

What do you mean? I am thinking of buying it and want to know first if it's a good isea or not. I have not enough posts, so I can't post a screenshot of this offer. There are tons of these on PPH / freelancer etc.

Yes but ask him for a list of the sites he will be posting on and and examples of what the listing will look like/ content.
I bought 30 citation links and they were complete junk. Each website the seller posted my link on was targeted to a different niche, for example he posted my business in a car dealership website then in an animal care review site then in a site where to buy computer hardware. He even included a site providing providing adult services, I couldn't even check because my work blocked the website and I haven't been bothered to check from my personal computer.
Most of the websites were that insignificant that hardly any of the links got picked up by google which I'm actually relieved at. And the actual information provided was completely basic, just an address and a couple of keywords.
If the list of sites looks credible and you think the seller will put effort in to the citations then should be good.

Are you sure you mean google maps citations and not regular citations?

When people offer google map citations they usually mean they'll put your NAP on different citation sites to strengthen 1 address, not put 50 different addresses for your company on to Google Maps. https://www.quora.com/What-is-a-Google-Map-citation
You need to clarify with the seller whether these are 50 citation sites or whether he is submitting your business under 50 different addresses.
Usually people try to strengthen 1 address to compete for their niche in a specific area.
If he's submitting 50 different addresses its like trying to rank for 50 keywords with 1 strength each instead of 1 keyword with 50 strength.
