    Or a Facebook clone package, basically it would be facebook except not, of course. Or maybe even a different kind of social networking clone. I see that Kootali, but does anyone have an opinion, good or bad about it? Any feedback/pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Not sure if this will help what you want to do but look at http://www.hookahdomain.com We use Ning. Cheap paid service you can scale up as it grows and it`s kind of a myspace thing. Works well for us.

    Try Drupal, very Flexible; You can build the site up to do pretty much anything you like. It usually comes in the Fantastico part of your hosting set up;

    Be warned though, Drupal is not noob friendly and can be quite a challenging CMS but it does have some smart modules.

    I would say social engine is by far the best, there are many different applications and plugins aswell as a huge fanbase with templates. Some really good custom versions out there on the warez scene also :)

    I personally am using social engine. It's a little buggy but not too bad.

    Until recently I wasn't on any social sites. Just joined Facebook & Twitter and am highly disappointed. When you see something like social engine you'll understand why. It's especially good for niche marketing which is how my consulting firm uses it.
