GSA SER has a dedicated forum, a full wiki, and tons of third party guides and discussions around it. Just Google it. Don't be fooled if some of those tutorials look old. The basics of GSA SER are still the same, though there is a lot to learn.
When you run it for the first time, don't bother scraping for targets. Just grab a premium link list instead. Also, make sure you are only building links to your Tier 2 sites. Don't point them directly at your money site. It's not that GSA can't do money site links, but since you are just starting out, one wrong setting can screw everything up. Better to play it safe.

yeah the old tutorials still help with the basics, but a clean verified list and testing small first probably matters way more now.

If you open GSA Search Engine Ranker and click Help (top right), you'll see a dropdown menu with all the documentation resources. Since Black Hat World doesn't allow URLs, I can't share the link directly, but you can follow the screenshot.

GSA SER is very advanced dynamic software where you have full control over your campaign setup. Nowadays, I'd say it's the only software where you can cover a lot of platforms and even add custom engines as you want. It all depends on your targets and the data you're going to enter. When you buy a link list, ask them for their setup. I can personally vouch for SER Verified Lists - they also offer setup documentation on their site, and I believe it's free to read.

I recently tried GSA Link Surge, which is also great and gets nice tier 1 safe do-follow links from article-type platforms. If you're on a budget, you can either stick with identified link lists like Links Plug or build your own link list. But as a first-timer, I'd suggest sticking with verified lists, especially ones built for higher tiers.
