I’ve recently opened an Amazon store and I’m struggling to get consistent traffic and visibility. When I run Amazon PPC, I’ve noticed that ad spend has been higher than usual lately, and it’s eating into profits.
Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong? Also, are there any simpler ways to manage PPC without constantly tweaking bids and campaigns? I’m looking for tips or strategies that save time and make campaigns more efficient while still driving results.

Amazon PPC can be tricky at first. Automated campaigns help reduce manual work, but you still need to monitor performance.

High spend can happen if competition for your keywords increased. Check your ACoS and try adjusting bids or using negative keywords.

Buy traffic from another source.

Maybe try buying youtube traffic - show short clips of your products, funnel the traffic to another youtube video that sells on your company/you and have a link to the amazon store. Doing it like this will keep the cost per view / click low - they usually charge you more if you send traffic directly to another platform, but will give you cheap clicks if you're sending to another page/video on the same platform (fb works the same way). You can also build a list before sending them - like, sign up to my email list and get 50% off your first purchase.

This should work well, if you have a niche store.

Does that make sense.

Simpler methods include using Amazon’s automatic targeting, but combine it with a small manual campaign to capture high-intent searches.

Tools like Helium 10 or Jungle Scout have PPC optimizers that suggest bid adjustments and keywords-saves a ton of time.

Sometimes scaling gradually instead of pushing big budgets right away helps keep spend in check and campaigns manageable.

I didn't like how all of these PPC management services charge a percentage of ad spend, so I used ChatGPT to help me build macros that optimise bids using bulk sheets. I have some 600 campaigns to manage, and previously I was spending 6 to 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, just managing bids. Now with my macros (thanks to ChatGPT), I can manage both placement percentages and bid adjustments in just 15 minutes per week. I'm currently working on automating the management of search terms. Perhaps this is something you can explore.

If you're on KDP (selling books) rather than Seller Central, then you won't have access to bulk sheets, but you can still automate stuff using Amazon's API, which is a bit more complicated, but still doable using ChatGPT, even if you (like me) have no coding experience.

Make sure you’re using exact and phrase match for your top keywords so you’re not bleeding budget on broad terms. Auto campaigns are good for research but pause the ones with bad ACoS fast.

you're not alone in this. Many new (and even seasoned) Amazon sellers face exactly what you're going through. Let’s break it down and give you some direct, actionable guidance

Manual campaigns are a pain at first, start with auto-targeting to gather data and optimize later.

Focus on high-converting keywords and negative keywords to avoid wasting spend, that alone simplifies PPC a lot.

Try Amazon’s automatic campaigns first, then use tools like Sellics to automate bid adjustments and save time.

Auto campaigns are a lifesaver for that. Let Amazon do the heavy lifting with targeting, and then just keep an eye on the performance. You can also try setting a max daily budget to control costs without stressing over bids.

Yeah, it sounds like you might be overcomplicating it a bit! Try automated campaigns and focus on optimizing keywords, then let Amazon adjust bids for you—it saves a ton of time and keeps things efficient.

Yes, high ad spend is normal at first. To simplify PPC, use automatic campaigns to gather data, then switch to manual campaigns with exact/phrase match keywords. Use Amazon’s suggested bids, set daily budgets, and consider PPC management tools like Sellics or Jungle Scout to save time. Focus on best-selling products first.

I feel you—PPC can eat your lunch money fast.
What saved me: let an Auto campaign ($5/day, default bid $0.70) run for 10-14 days, download the search-term report, keep the 3-4 keywords that actually sold, dump the rest. Move winners to a dirt-simple Exact campaign, bid a dime over Amazon’s suggestion, negative them in Auto. Check once a week, bump bids 10 % if ACOS < target, drop 10 % if not. Two campaigns, five minutes, profit stops bleeding.

Look up Chris Rawlings on youtube, plenty of useful tutorials about Amazon PPC.

Try using Amazon’s automated bidding and dynamic bidding features—they adjust bids for you and can help optimize your ad spend without constant tweaking.

From what I’ve seen, Amazon PPC can get expensive fast, especially for new stores. Sometimes the higher spend is just increased competition. What helped me was focusing on tighter keywords and letting campaigns run long enough to gather real data. Curious to hear what others are doing to keep things efficient without constant micromanaging
