I've been doing some searches on godaddy for keyword-rich domains in a particular niche, and it looks like some good ones are taken for .com, even some .info but people don't take .nets or .orgs? Sure they're a couple more dollars than a .info, but the keywords are still there... isn't that what counts?

Yes.

There are even .net and .org domains that rank higher than a .com domain.
If you find a good one, buy it!
Latest result shows that a .org with no hyphens in the keywords performs better than a .net with hyphens.

I would go for a .org without hyphens!

Thanks for the help man. I'm just getting started on my very first clickbank/adwords campaign promoting a certain niche, we'll see how it goes. i can pick up a whole bunch of domains in this niche, but then do what with them? point them to various products? I'm having a hard time figuring out how to even promote these domains outside of adwords.

make some wh and bh sites with them and point them to your affiliate ID.

Use the domains for Adsense, affiliate products and list building.
