Is there a difference between a "tunnel" and a "chain"?

Is there a difference between a "tunnel" and a "chain" when it comes to tor, proxies, vpns, etc?

"tunnel" should be mean point - to point
"chain" should be mean lots of point, point to point to point, like a network

Tunnel is for vpn's. Encrypted tunnel between 2 points.
Chain is multihop - can be chain of proxies, chain of tunnels (rarely).
