Is the MacBook Pro 2018 good for IM

I'm thinking of buying a very decent laptop that I can use for many years to come and I'd like it to be a good first IM investment. I've saved some money and that laptop won't eat a big chunk of it. I know MacBooks are fast, reliable, mobile and are very durable. I also know they're pricey.

But if we put the money aside, is it a good choice?

Apple hardware is usually pretty solid. I go with them for the hardware. MacOS is pretty solid too, never crashes. The 2017 one had some keyboard issues and that has been fixed with the 2019 one. You could wait till September and see if they come up with a new one, there are some macrumors going on about a new release in september.

They released a new MacBook Pro 2018 just a week ago. I doubt they'll be giving us something new on the MacBook side just a few months later?

I haven't needed an upgrade since I got my first mbp in 2013. Maybe the one I read about was the one released just a week ago. go for it. You won't regret buying a mac.
 
I've been using mine that I got in 2010. A Macbook Pro 13". Still works like new even though the battery is a bit weak.
 
Very good choice for a laptop. Everything you need.
 
my macbook air is 2013 version and even after 5 years i've no complaints with it except that I've already got battery replaced once and now is the time to get dc cable of magsafe 2 charger replaced.

So you're good with any apple laptop I believe.

How many hours does it last once fully charged if I am using it for IM work?
 
I got my sony vaio in 2010. It was high end when i bought, to date i cant find a solid robust laptop to replace it.

Macbook, if you can afford it just go for it.
 
I own a Macbook pro 2016, very similar to the 2018 version. It was a very good choice since it kind of improves my productivity.

I use both Mac & Window now but I am starting to use Mac a lot more than my Window.

How much is the max RAM you can upgrade on your version and how's the video quality of the camera, asking because I am going to start doing a lot of fb live videos soon.
 
Made the switch to Mac maybe 5 years ago or so.. Haven't looked back!

When it was new it used to work for 8-10 hours. Now maybe 6-7 hours. I'm talking about the replacement battery here. Original battery lasted for 2.5-3 years with over 1000 cycles.

Yeah it was INR 5,000.
And the charger cost is again INR 5,000
And my trackpad broke which is again INR 5,000

But except trackpad, it has paid off for itself. Its still working wondefully and I believe it will continue to do so for another 2-3 years atleast.
Also it will still sell for almost 40% price at which I bought it so its worth every penny.
 
I am thinking of buying one with 16GB RAM and i7 with good camera so my fans can see me crystal clear :) which Mac one would you suggest me?
 
Apple is over hyped, get a dos laptop that costs same. You will have better hardware than Apple for sure (in terms of computing) , get a nvme SSD , install Linux and voila. My computer boots in less than 7 seconds (using arch Linux)
 
Depends on what you really want and need. Personally, I'd opt for a nice work-space with a decent chair, desk, monitor setup etc over something like an expensive laptop. If you already have those things then maybe just get what will make you happy. I don't see why you couldn't have a Mac, I'd hate it but to each their own.
