You are absolutely right! There is a big shift.
Users now use social media platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, etc as search engines. I personally still use Instagram to search for information today, instead of the usual search engine (google).
People do it when they want quick answers, tutorials, or product recommendations.
As a result of the new development, it is important to start treating social platforms a bit more like search engines. Things like using clear keywords in captions, speaking the keywords in videos, and adding relevant hashtags seem to help content appear in search results.
I’ve also noticed that content which answers a specific question or solves a problem tends to perform better than general posts.
So instead of just posting for engagement, I try to think about what someone might actually search for on the platform and structure the content around that. Social media is now becoming a discovery + search channel, not just entertainment.
