Yes - pretty well.
There are two camps now though.
The majority are best used for indexing. They are transient links where the URL the link is on moves down the canonical structure of the bookmark site as new posts are added - often to be eventually archived (or deleted)
The others - the good ones (Reddit is a good example) often offer permanent hi authority static links - or at least links that last for months (or years) rather than just a few hours or days.
End of the day a link is a link. A high authority bookmark with good link retention on a well trusted site surrounded by other authority content is going to be better than a hand crafted WEB2.0 on jismdo dot com or some other crappy bottom of the barrel website.
Don't get too caught up on what platform a link is on. It's more important that the actual site is good. A good PR6 D0follow WIKI or Article is still great as long as you mix them up.
