I thought about using some of the social bookmarking tools, but none of them worked.
I tried doing some social bookmarking and automated directory submissions.
But none of them seems to work.
Can someone tell me is social bookmarking necessary for high ranking in google.
I am not getting any of the social bookmarking tools working.
I am thinking of building some links manually

They all work fine. Are you using cracked versions or what? Onlywire.com is free and does 35 submissions. Run a link through there, then use a backlink checker about 5 days later to see your links.

They are the best links possible. You must have too much competition or something cause if you make more backlinks than your competitor and use web 2.0 properties, you will rank fast.

Is manual link building better than automated social bookmarking?
Just a confusion as I tried doing social bookmarking and my site is not to be seen anywhere in the search term

There's no difference between doing it manually and using tools except that tools automate the process.

If you can get good results manually, then there should be no reason why you can't get the same with tools but faster.

With that said, if you can't get good results manually, then you will probably have a hard time with tools.

What kind of link will google considers as better?A link made from a high PR blog comment or like that or social bookmarking?

There's no better link between the two. They have their own weight in Google's eyes. You should not stick to one linking process only. You should use all of them, may it be SB, Blog commenting, link wheel etc.
