Is sitemap important ?

Definitely it is important my friend. How SE doesn't crawl your website easily without a sitemap.
 
Implementing a sitemap is essential from a search engine optimization point of view as it makes it easier for Google and other search engines to crawl your site and identify what every page of your site is about...


It is also important to have a sitemap to assist usability and ensure site visitors have an easy-to-use directory of every page on your site for reference...
 
It's total waste of time. Keep your sites well structured and you will never need to have one. I have never seen a site do better in seo just because it had a sitemap.
 
I saw some higher rank blogs are not using site map. For an instance labnol. But I use site map.
 
Site maps can help, but as long as you have a well internally linked site, you should be fine.
 
It is certainly important, without the sitemap, spider can not easily crawl everyone url of your website.
 
Sitemaps can help improve the accuracy of rankings and therefore search results, meaning they are good for my overall search campaign. They can also be useful when combined with other SEO activity.
 
It can't hurt you, and its easy to do.. so why not have a sitemap to be on the safe side. :)

It doens't takes much time to build one and doesn't hurts your rankings either so why not trying building and adding one to your website?

Just make sure that linking your internal pages would be a bonus with the sitemap.
 
I use Google XML Sitemaps for Wordpress, its an one click plugin thats incredibly easy to use.
 
It's like this. In seo you get "points" for lack of a better term if you do certain things that search engines like. They like sitemaps.

If you do not do these things you do not get the "points". In addition to sitemaps, robots file, using headings, your domain age, even how long your domain is registered for will give you extra "points".

The question is not if it is necessary, the question is do you want to OPTIMIZE your site or not.

If you optimize your site, you will want to take advantage of every "point" available.

The real gain is when your site and a competitor are fairly equal, the site that has these extra "points" will rank higher.

For me, I want all the "points" available, if you get my point.
 
Yes you should have it, It helps to get quicker and higher crawl and index rate.
 
No it is not important. If your pages have any substantive content on it, you won't need a sitemap to help you index stuff.

It is easy to do though, but it won't help or hurt you in either way.
 
If the website/blog is new site map is important because it help Search engine to crawl the website.

As once the sitemap is submitted you can check it using WordPress visitor plugin how many spiders visiting the website :)
