Is Silo effective, is it possible with Drupal or which is best?

I was looking at wordpress version but done;t see how it can work if menus are linked at the top.

You can Silo with anything, its just a structure term.

It's both correct and incorrect to link the silos together - link them if the silos are related - don't link them if the silos are unrelated

e.g.

Car repair silos - alternator, suspension, brakes, are all parts of a car, and can/should be linked together

Portal site silos - news, weather, politics, etc. are all unrelated and the silos should not be linked together

I always remove the top navigation from a theme, and create sidebar navigation with dynamic linking - see:

You can do it in Drupal - either using a plugin or coding the theme directly - you'll likely have to code it yourself as Drupal is not as popular a platform as wordpress - so not attractive to silo solution vendors
