If optimizing for a specific region, does it help (or does it matter) if the server is place in that region. E.g. a websites about london for british people to be hosting in UK? And mabye on servers where other high authority websites are hosted? Does it matter?

Thankful for any recommendations
Cheers,
m.

If you are talking about seo-wise, Google claims it helps to rank for a specific country if your website is hosted from that country, ie : Your server is located in UK, this will increase your chances to rank #1 for google.co.uk.

Interesting idea, but people who use shared hosting would be punished as it's likely to be on the same server with crap sites.

it isn't main factor for seo, check any niche and will find on first page from different countries ip's ranking on top

I wouldn't say its critical, I wouldn't even get a new host unless it was a really competitive niche, then in that case every little advantage helps I guess. What im trying to say is its not really something you need to worry about, there is lots of sites out there rankings top that are not located correctly, I would just spend your time working on other better things :)

It's a 0.1% factor. Much more important is to choose the targeted country in your GWT.

You'll see a lot of overseas hosting, wherever you are.

In the US, a bunch of people host in the UK/DE/NE

For me, the idea with SEO has always been keep things as loose as possible while having a grip on it all

Yes this is agree for sure. A year ago I built a site targeted for UK traffic. .co.uk domain and hosting in the UK. I believe all those factors helped the site rank very well on google uk search results.

Thank you! What would the No 1 factor be - TLD? Incoming backlinks rating high in that area?

Yep! From my expirience it sure does. It's important that the server is located where the targeted market is

That would depend on the niche and the kws you want to rank for, competition etc. tld might give you a push as will high quality links within the niche. did I mention some good 'pillar' content as well? it's a difficult one to answer without more info :)
