Is SEO and Web Design taxable in US or Canada?
Can you tell clients that services you provide are counted as advertising for business and can be taxable?

that is a hard one. It comes down to your state that you are in and the laws that they have set up.

I am in texas and i have had my CPA and lawyer contact the state as its not really clear in the law.

This is what i was told for our state.

SEO is non taxable
web design can be taxed if you had the customer a copy of the files. If you never had a customer a hard copy then its not taxalbe.

I would get you a lawyer or CPA and have them find out and get something in writing from the state.

cause in most states you can read law two different ways when you look at it.

It is self-employment as you are not an employee of anyone! Self-employment income is obviously taxable under self employment head!

does anybody know the law in Canada Ontario?

Of course it's taxable. You're offering a service isn't it.

no i mean can the owner of the business put the cost of SEO as advertising and get back his taxes?

In California, marketing can be deducted as a business expense. I deduct all of my SEO and link building as a business expense.

If you get your taxes done by a CPA or accountant, they will know for your state. I give my clients my tax ID number so they can deduct their expenses they've paid me.

I'm not a CPA or lawyer, so don't take this as legal advice, it's only my opinion.

As far as i know if you get money in your bank account? than its taxable.

You have to talk to an accountant to see if he can do "funny math" generally anything over 600 dollars of income someone has to pay income tax in the united states

its liable under taxation and u have to pay the tax to your government for the income you are earning as freelancer...

That's horrible advice. Just pay the tax and move on. Do you really want the IRS going through all of your financial records for the last 5 years? I don't want or need that headache.

Deductions are a legitimate way to pay less taxes, but even with a 100% deduction, you'll still likely pay taxes.

Would love to see it bro. Do you know a way to get the dead ones out of your db? I am trying resinging up and there are 22k in mine that i cant sign up to I would rather delte them out. Do you know any way?

I think the the OP is referring to Sales Tax on the sale. Not income the income tax.
Of course income tax is taxable.
the Sales tax will depend on the state that you are in, AND where the customer is located. Each state is different.
I do work in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. Maryland and Virginia do not charge sales tax on labor. Washington DC does.

People I think he is asking.

Can my client charge it back on his taxes as a business expense.

If that's what he is asking then yes he can but depends on state and it would be consider advertising for the clients company.

Tell your client to have their account check on it.

Edit: He is asking if his service can be consider a business expense for his customers.
