Doubt SEO will expire, but things will change.
Even now I am of the opinion that Adsense MNS are on their way out and authority sites are in vogue..

LOL- you can trace bh techniques to the old yellow page phone book days- when companies would have aaaaaaaaaaaaplumbing to rank for page 1. Actually this could work now....
Before xrumer and scrapebox were considered blackhat. Nowadays private/public blog networks that accept spin content are considered blackhat. Next year the ones that only accept unique content as well, if not so already cause BMR also gets plenty of blogs deindexed.
And in a few years they will probably say that guest blogging is blackhat.
If seo wouldn't work anymore then there is not much left to base a ranking on, only domain age and quality of content, quality of content is hard to automatically measure by robots and domain age would be way too flawed as new comers would have no chance and search engines would be sued all over even more then now cause of unfair competition.

Most likely yes. Google is going that way as well. It seems that their priority now is genuine and relevant information to consumers, not the number of backlinks, PR, etc...

Search engine positioning is what is in danger, for commercial searches.
Commercial search is where the problem is. They are showing different results to many people and are soon to make it very difficult to see what keywords are bringing people to your site.
Seo is about to become a lot more difficult. All in all, people will find they are getting quicker, and more effective results from PPC.
If i was an SEO i would be worried about my future because commercial search is becoming difficult to optimise for with all the variation and different displays. As well as PPC encroaching on the serps more and more. Imagine if they made the top 3 ads 4 ads.... Death to free traffic, or 75% of it anyway.

Err..no.
Its an algo..it cannot tell what text is "genuine"/"relevent" other than look for certain patterns in words/word usage/length of time user stays on site etc .
I can show you many pages of lame content on page one..and more interesting content on page 3 and further back.
Or..write a page of 400 words of great %$#@ content..and do no seo on the page.
Then write a page of shite but original content..and do normal seo on it.
Seriously, which one do you think google will "reward".
Its just funny that when I look at the backlinks of the sites on page 1 for comp terms...by some %$# bizarre "coincidence"..they have more backlinks that sites on page 30.
WTF..
In some niches..like video cameras/film production for instance...attract great traffic because the writers/owners are writing %$#@ brilliant content..and gain backlinks from other sites pointing to them with no seo required by the owner....but these type of genres/examples/technique does not work for most sites trying to push a range of affiliate products/services.
How much can you seriously write about things like sunglasses/credit cards etc..

How can SEO expire? SEO will die only when all the search engines are dead.. May be this will happen when someone fixes a chip in your head with all the information in the world, which you can selectively take.
There are some dos and don'ts to get to the top of the search engine rankings.. the dos and don't might change.. but the new method to get your website on top will become the new SEO strategy, if good, well formatted content alone can get you to the top, then that is the SEO strategy.
