I purchased this a few years ago (around 2006). It worked moderately well with the Templates back then, but I got away from it to promote with other methods. My license still works for it, so now I'm considering getting a few domains and picking it back up. Is SEC still worth using?

I don't think it's still wise using it.
The script works, no problem with that. I still have a bunch of sites out there on free hosting accounts.
The problem is the outdated IP-list.
I just checked the login page where they give you the option to DL an updated list. Unfortunately it doesn't have a timestamp.
I wanted to check the forums but the URL redirects to the CloakerLive page. Wonder if the forum is dead. The last couple of times I was there, it already became clear that support for the script was dying out.
I compared the IP-list with the Fantomaster botbase and it's a different format. So no easy way to use that with SEC. Not without some coding experience I think.
Compared with all the options you have today I doubt it's worth investing in it again.
Even with EWI it took time to set the sites up.
I moved over to more automated solutions.

I was a member of SSEC for a short while and I picked some up from the discussions.
I wouldn't go for the free route anyway. Indexing was pretty fast because of the authority of the domain but ranking sucked. Guess there came a moment that G didn't like these subs anymore.
And as with Web2.0 properties there's always a change that they ban your account.
Better buy a aged domain and put some subs with your cloaked domains on it. Gives you better control.

Next to Fantomaster Shadowmaker, I use WPCloaker.
Check the vids on that page to see what it does. It hasn't been updated in a while but it's working up to WP 2.9.2.
It updates its botbase from the merchants server. I'm not using that so you could check with him if the update is still supported.
It comes with a script to use the botbase from Fantomaster. That's the setup I have.
Big pro with a Wordpress solution is that all content can be pulled with other plugins like WP-Robot.
