Is Reposting Old Content Still a Good Growth Strategy?

I’ve noticed more creators and brands bringing back older posts or recycling past content with small updates. Some say it helps maintain consistency, others feel it hurts reach.

What’s your experience?
Do reposts still perform well, or is fresh content always the better move?

Curious to hear how you’re handling this in your own strategy.

I personally wouldn't bring back old posts. Or if I did, the text would be almost the same. But the image would be new.
It's harder with videos. Because sometimes the algorithm can pick up an "old" video better than before. But I would always change something. So that it would be different in some way. There's no need to change the video or image completely. Maybe a 20 - 30% edit would be enough.

I don't have any personal experience with it. Because I've always published new and new stuff myself. I haven't started editing old ones. So I don't know if 20-30% editing is enough and what kind of contact it makes with the customer.

I don't know how it will be in the future. When artificial intelligence improves and so on. A system can be built into social media. Where it uses artificial intelligence to identify the image or video you have published as reused. Then the system consciously considers your publication to be spam or not up to date. Then it won't make your publication more visible.

So it may be wisest to make each publication new or at least make some changes at this stage.

Reposting works if updated a bit, but fresh content usually gets better engagement.
I mix both — reuse strong posts occasionally, but focus on new content.

Yeah, I’ve seen that too! Honestly, reposting or updating older content still works well if it’s evergreen or still relevant just add a fresh hook or tweak visuals. Totally fine mix between old and new keeps things consistent without burning out.

Reposting older content can maintain visibility but fresh posts generally get better reach and engagement on most platforms

I wouldn't repost same content since how then you can keep the content unique? If you update that post yes will work and will get you more reach

I’ve seen both work recycled posts perform well when the update adds real value. Just don’t repost identical content too often, or reach usually drops.

Good question — I’ve actually seen both sides of it. Reposting or refreshing old content can still perform well if it’s updated with new info or insights, especially for audiences who missed it the first time. But I’ve noticed platforms tend to reward consistency and originality, so mixing both approaches works best — reuse what’s valuable, but don’t rely on it too often.

Reposts can still work really well if they’re updated or timed right. Most platforms don’t penalize older content, they just favor engagement. If a post did well before, refreshing the visuals, headline, or caption can give it new life. I see it as recycling proven ideas, not repeating content. Just make sure it feels current and adds a bit of new value.

Old posts work fine if they feel fresh again, not just repeated without reason.

Reposting old content will trigger the google's bot to rank your content lower due to plagiarism. It's better to alter the content yourself and then post it, not reposting the same exact content as it is.
