I own a meme account and I'm wondering if I'm allowed to repost memes from other accounts without permission but with credit given. If it's not allowed, what's the worst that could happen? Simply the meme being taken down?

If you know who is the original creator, give credit, and that's it.

Nobody has patented memes, at least until now so you're good to repost them.

But if it's from a specific page and not very popular or targeted towards specific person/people, be careful with what you're posting.
And giving credit to the original creator is always a nice gesture.

99% legal.
Just be careful when you post video - memes. I have friends that are getting copyright strikes. Always give credit to the original Youtuber / creator / tiktoker / influencer when posting videos.

Asking credits is the top notch situation, yes. However only a few big pages will answer .. It's Ok for a small bunch of content.

But if you want to repost many images (like repost hubs), just shout them out on the post caption + image.
