Is pinging necessary ?

Pinging is to call google to crawl the page and let them see that the page now have a link to my page, I want to ask, is pinging like calling google NOW, wouldn't google bot comes anyway after a day or 2 if I don't ping ? I'm bookmarking on sites and I want to know if I have to ping, I can do it with no problem but its more work if its not really necessary because I'm not that hurry.

Overall I have found that the big advantage of pinging is that the backlinks show up faster and sites that hold your backlinks that may have not gained PR (and thus not show up as a backlink for you) will gain enough to add to the effectiveness of your campaign.

When I went through all this last fall I showed significant gains after pinging.

So, no, you don't have to ping. but if you do your backlinks will show up faster and in greater quantity.

Another spin I have on that question, is will pinging get you caught. If you're bookmarking like crazy and you ping, they are all gonna show up fast wouldn't that put up a flag?

if you don't ping it look more natural... but its not as effective I recommend pinging...

It's best if the pings are randomized, and sequenced over time. If I've got 1000 items to ping I'll take up to three days to get it all done. Nice and slow. Mixed with other subjects from other properties as well. That way it looks more natural.

Pinging is definitely recommended. If you haven't heard of pingler yet i definitely recommend using it!
