Is Picasa, Flickr optimization still effective for SEO?

Is it worth the time to upload images and optimize them these days? I know before the whole panda/penguin updates they may have been, I just don't know about these days now.

i dont know, but i do not think that it has "dominating effects". can you set backlinks there too (i dont know i am not on flicker). if so, why not use it

I still add backlinks to all my Flickr picture descriptions. It is more for traffic from google image searches. I have a bunch of hi-res pictures from my job and they are very popular traffic getters.

Yeah I'm just wondering if its worth the effort because I have a lot of product images I was considering uploading on there. I guess it doesn't hurt to do whatever it takes. My main concern is if it will be less impact due to the updates
