is physical silo bad?

Ive seen plenty of huge sites and seo sites like MOZ - they only do virtual silo, not physical


virtual: flowing link juice via links
physical: site.com/apples/post-about-apples


im also structuring my site atm and noticed often post X is in these three categories:
site.com/java/post-about-coding-in-java
site.com/coding/post-about-coding-in-java
site.com/programming-languages/post-about-coding-in-java

you can add many categories to post but only one top level category will be in url

should i not do physical seo in this case then?

You should use subcategories too, like site.com/programming-languages/java or site.com/coding/java or you could even do site.com/coding/programming-languages/java. It all depends on how specific you need your SILO to be

I mean that both bruce clay and moz do virtual silo but not so much physical silo:

they both put "blog" instead of category name.

Depends on your site, if you're a small niche blog you shouldn't copy what big authority sites do.

Physical silos do very good actually, have a parent keyword that defines the niche as a category and topics under it.
You would have to do some extra work on building links but its well worth the effort!

yeah but what about cases when article can be placed in e.g. 3 categories? is that not wrong if we put one of them in the URL? if you do that then the other two categories wont be included in url. are youre kinda forcing your own categories on google, even if google uses different set of categories in their database
