Is pbn-niche relevance important

Is it wise to buy an expired domain not related to your own niche and turn it into something irrelevant to what it had been before?

Say you buy a carpenter website and turn it into a medical article website, does this hurt the value you will be deriving from the website with backlinks, will there be no difference or completely destroy it?

What you described basically applies to 95% of PBN's anyway, it definitely won't completely destroy it. It's probably better that the expired domain was in the same niche as your money site but for most people that's unrealistic if you're trying to get more than just a handful of PBN links.
 
I totally advise against this.

Website like that will most likely enter a "repurposing sand-box" as we call it and will be useless for months. It might get flagged even. It can go as far as showing "this site might be hacked" in search results.

It's not impossible to do but it can take months. If you are willing to do that, feel free.

What I suggest you do instead is re-create the website in its original topic. Content used for linking can be mixture of topics of PBN unit and money site.

From your example your PBN unit is about carpets and money site a medical blog. You can create a piece about "Carpet Dust Mites Are A Risk To Your Health" and easily link out.

Works like charm.

Thanks a lot tilberius! Since your name is not very memorable I could not link you to a question I just asked which kind of pertains to the sandbox topic that I saw you talk about a lot.

The question is at www.blackhatworld___com/seo/building-backlinks-during-sandbox-harmful-or-beneficial.1408582/ . It's about building links to a sandboxed domain. Could you help me out on it if you happened to have experience on it?
 
I would rather keep it as a carpenter site. The idea is to think like a normal webmaster rather than a SEO

Yeah, that works. Usually as long as the content is related top your niche, it's all that matters :)

Though, yeah you might get better results if the backlinks are related to your niche
 
Dude, honestly, not as much as people think.

But relevant is always better.
 
Like some of the other commenters, I would also advise against this.
 
What you need to ask yourself is this -- in actual deployment, would all the links come from related sites?

Probably not.

Therefore it's ok to do it with a PBN.

The problems potentially will come from concerns with your PBN, not their topics.

In other words, if your PBNs are crummy and spun, it won't matter how related they are.
