Just sold site and was thinking, what if buyer opens dispute after transaction and states its not what I said it was (which it is) - is there anyway to cover my ass. -if not whats the alternatives.

If your buyer (quoting you) "opens a dispute and states it's not what you said it was" then you'll win the dispute. If, however, they dispute you for any other reason then chances are good that you'll lose it indeed.

In case of a large transaction DO NOT use PayPal. Go with either Escrow or (if your buyer agrees) bank wire / WU.

Are you talking about the $5k transaction?

I'm personally never willing to accept a payment of more than $1.5k via PayPal.

Your situation is, of course, a bit trickier as you've already agreed on the terms of the deal and the buyer has already initiated the transaction. But regardless, if I were you I would do some decent due diligence (does the buyer seem intelligent, do you have their full name and other details, are they willing to speak to you on phone etc.) and make my decision based on this. If anything seems even a bit dodgy then go with Escrow.

Oh, and if you do opt for PayPal then as soon as you've received the transfer ship the buyer a CD with the files of the site on it and make sure it's a signature delivery and has a tracking number. This is pretty much the *only* way of fighting fraudulent "item not received" paypal disputes.

If you ever use paypal, you should get them to send the money to you as a gift, that way, they can't dispute it.

Miansc is correct .. in theory.

But follow his advice more than a few times and you're sure to find your PayPal account limited and then closed with the money frozen for 180 days.

@Miansc: would be fab if you'd familiarise yourself with how things work before giving others advice that may end up costing them quite a bit of money. Just so you know - PayPal are known (yes - *known* - it's no secret) to take these matters extremely seriously and you are guaranteed to get your account flagged once they see more than a few k (or more than a few transactions per month) of "gifts" coming in.

You just send a email from your paypal email what you want to sell described each poing and if the buyer agree asekd hime to send you reply from his paypal email and keep save all the transctin document and if you are corrrect form your site you can accept PayPal Payment

That's a load of bullshit, I know people who get 5+ transactions sent to them a day sent as gifts. "what a wally?" go fuck yourself.

Good on you mate.

Give me your friends' addresses and I'll send them each a chocolate bar .. as a sort of consolation prize once they lose their paypal accounts ;)
