Was just wondering if it was fine to build links from a page that is talking about a different subject. For example, if i placed a comment on a weight loss blog, pointing back to my dating blog, would that help me improve my ranking?

i've got a good list of worpress blogs that talk about politics and are dof-ll-w. Thought i'd post comments over there!

relevancy is better. yeah but google still count your backlinks from all sites!

actually it depend on number of factors

e.g

1- Domain Trust
2- Authority site
3-High PR
and many other things

It is not compulsory but if u got relevant back link u got relevant traffic and look natural building but authority of that website matters a lot up-til now I have experience

Cheers
:)

not important but its better if you have backlinks from relevant pages
however all links will help you in rankings unless you over do it

Sure it is. It affects your ranking. Building a page with non relevant content or links wont rate you highly in googles eyes if your pages are the same. Why would you want to link unrelated content anyway?

I've noticed a lot of the huge authority sites get sitewide links on eachother's sites. For example checkout lendingtree.com and look at the "partner" links on the bottom right. They are completely unrelated but I'd imagine the big authority sites know what they are doing.

I think the number of backlinks helps you rank for more unpopular long tail keywords in your niche but having a link from a site that is optimized for your keyword is more important for the highly competitive terms. I agree that all links help but for more competitive terms you do need some high quality links from pages that are optimized for that particular keyword.

do google adsense ban my account if i buy backlinks ?

They're separate things - adsense doesn't look at your backlinks, only your traffic. They could care less about your non-traffic generating backlinks.
