I bought a valid PR6 domain for my private blog network, aged and with lots of good, legitimate links flowing to it, even one PR7 link. Its in google's index, comes up #2 when you search the domain keywords, and by the looks of wayback machine has never been spammed. Its PR held strong during the last pr update too. I've got wp up on it, and i am linking to my money site from the home page. Standard pbn setup, hosted on bluehost on a shared IP. But its been 2 months, and not only did this awesome PR6 link not give my money site a boost, it also doesn't show up as a backlink in majestic or Ahrefs. Whats the deal? I'm thinking I either bought a PR6 domain that is penalized by google, but not de-indexed, or I just don't have enough content (300 words), or my hosting is nofollowing my links??

You are comparing apples and oranges here.

First Ahrefs and Majestic are totally different than Google rankings. So even if the domain was "penalized" by Google the links would still show up in ahref/majestic.

My guess is that while the domain has good PR it's stuck pretty far back in the web, meaning that majestic/ahrefs will have a hard time finding it and Google may as well.

I would build a few "fresher" links to get the domain recirculated in the bots crawling faster and subsequently you may see your rankings increase.

It could be Google hasn't even crawled the domain in a while.

There can be many reasons, as suggested above, may need some links if you've done no backlinking since purchased. I assume you don't have the site set up as the original site was. For a real PR6 site I would have ripped the site from the waybackmachine so the url structures would be the same. This helps keep as many of the backlinks as possible. You could have then slipped the link in somewhere and changed the content slightly but kept the page structure etc intact.

from a multi page site to probably a one page site, you've probably lost pr already (google will go by realtime PR), this may be a factor as to why the link is doing nothing for you. Try hitting it with some links first to ensure it is indexed, better still add more content and bookmark the homepage and new content. The video sitemap method gets content indexed fast,.. I suggest creating several posts some with video, some not, basically randomise it, obviously the post with the link gets a video. Create a one off GWT account and submit your video sitemap, create some decent links at the same time, some facebook likes etc Don't go nuts. This will at least confirm the link is indexed.

thanks for your suggestion. I will try adding some fresh links to it, and also building out the site a little more with a similar structure as the old site. My only reservation is that the site already shows up in google's cache as its current version, so I know that the bots have already been over it.
