...you get something like $15 per 1k views as a YT partner. You'd have made $1200+ in 3 days. How's that for easy money?
I am partner on youtube since the partnership is open for all and I think I have the experience to say that this is BS.
When I started with yt I uploaded "global news" and sometimes I was one of the first. Eg: presidential election, pope election, storm sandy, Felix Baumgartners stratosphere jump and so on. I had extremely good views but I never ernead so much like you say (and last year the CPC was much higher than today).
Not the views are important - The clicks are important. And you just get clicks (hight CTR) if you choose the right ads. With pre-, mid- and post-roll ads you will geht a higher CTR but the problem is that this ad-types only work with long videos (10-15min+).
Now I have a CTR of ~15-20%. That means: If I get 1000 views I get ~150 monetized clicks. My CPC is 0,5 - 0,7 EURO. 150 x 0,6€ = 9 EURO (=12$).
12$ - And I only have long videos!!! And you HAVE TO KNOW that these 1000 views are views WITH ads!!!! (Some people use ad-blockers; sometimes your videos have no ads - so it could be that you get 5.000 views but just 1.000 monetized views with ads - so you just earn these 12$ for the whole 5.000 views).
You can check this in your Adsense-Account If you compare the views in your start-page with the views of the performance report.
Conclusion for me:
+++ short viral videos = high views = but just banner-ads/leads (nobody click this shit) = low income
+++ long videos = mostly lower views = but pre, mid, postroll-ads (many clicks because it counts automaticly If ja user is watching these ads for 10 seconds) = high income.
Thats MY opinion. But The short viral videos are perfect for other methods like CPA, Affilate, or to link the users to a long video or your website.
