IS MOBILE SEO IMPORTANT?

Just wanted to share my thoughts on Mobile SEO.

Mobile SEO is the optimization of websites to view on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets with a smooth experience. After the increase in the usage of portable devices, more than 50% of Internet users started surfing websites through their mobile devices daily. It is clear that mobile SEO is inevitable.
Google Bots search for the mobile version of your site. If it is present, they send it to indexing and then move it to the desktop version. If not, google bots may negatively affect search ranking. Mobile optimized website has more chance to get top of SERP on Desktop results too!

Let’s see what factors affect mobile SEO

• UNRESPONSIVE WEBSITE DESIGN

If your site has an unresponsive design, the content doesn’t automatically adapt to different screen sizes. Unresponsive website designs cause poor user experience, as the users have to pinch or zoom in to read the content. (Unresponsive sites are quite annoying! )

Help your users to easily complete their activities on your website to purchase a product or to subscribe etc., Responsive web design could be a good choice. In responsive web design, the website uses the same domain and same HTML code, irrespective of the devices. It doesn’t require any redirection thus reducing the load time of the pages. It also helps in improving the crawling efficiency as the bot crawls your page only once.

• POOR LOADING SPEED

Many people leave the site if it doesn’t load in 3 seconds. It negatively impacts user experience. As the users leave the page, it increases the bounce rate as well. If your site’s performance is low on multiple devices, it leads to a lower traffic level and may also affect your site’s visibility. (The need for speed! )

So, ensure the pages of the site are optimized to load on slow networks too! This reduces the bounce rate of your site. You can use PageSpeed Insights to test the loading speed of your site on both mobile and desktop. The AMP version is good to create content-optimized websites that easily load on multiple devices.

• POOR ACCESSIBILITY OF CONTENT

Poor accessibility is when your site has intrusive popups, and if it is difficult to view the images or videos on multiple devices.

The content should be easily viewable, and traversable, and it should not have any intrusive popups. Images and videos should be easily viewable on mobile devices. Users should be able to easily move from one page to another page. If pop-ups are present making accessibility difficult, there may be a chance of your website getting penalized. Allow only the responsible non-intrusive popups.
