I would like to ask you if mentioning the brand (name) of a website without a link to that site helps to improve the position of the website in search engine? I asked this Matt Cutts. I would be delighted if you click goo .gl/mod/NMC4 and vote for the question. With colleagues from Searchengines bg gathered 29 votes. Also interesting to me is your opinion on the matter, thanks.

Mentioning Brand without linking is actually a good move, since you are still using your brand name but not linking it, Essentially it will ensure that you are not just posting for links. Gives your brand good authority . I personally use just Names without any links , just to keep the name circulated in the right places:)

First, why on earth would you want to ask Matt Cutts anything? I could understand if you wanted to throw rotten vegetables at him...

I don't think you'll find any practical SEO benefit in brand name mentions in standard text, unless it was possibly in huge volume across massive social signal sites. But a good spattering of brand mentions are always good from the human marketing perspective.

Dropping your name on other sites won't effect the search engine ranks of your target site. However, doing so can help or hurt your brand. For example, if you drop your company name on a porn blog and your selling children's toys, that won't look good. If you are dropping your name on relevant blogs then it can be helpful in terms of building general brand exposure.

Keep in mind unless you're name dropping on note worthy sites it's a waste of time and energy.

When saying note worthy sites it depends on the brand.

If its a household brand then places like Facebook, Twitter Youtube, Instagram, and other social media sites would be great places to drop your brand name.

If its a corporate brand then blogs, forums of people in the niche would be great places to get awareness out for your brand.

I also agree staying away from niches that are not related to the brand name.

    Just my 2 cents though.

It definitely helps to put your brand name next to your keyword even when you don't link back to your site.
I have ranked sites doing just this.

Although I don't believe it currently matters in the algorithm, at some point it likely could.

Google is moving to an authority without links model, taking author ranking, social mentions, etc, into account as it tries to rank sites without the old links methodology.

If you want to future proof, then get brand mentions with and without links, drop naked links without anchors, diverse platforms, and the rest of the backlink basics 101 techniques.

It depends very much upon the volume of mentions and where you place the mentions. If you have some high profile mentions on high traffic sites then it will have some positive effect, without a doubt. That said, every site has its own rules with regard to brand name mentions of external sites and you would be well advised to check the rules and regs of the site before posting.
