I created articles on Medium.com and, for some reason, one of my articles was shadow-banned. I used other articles for backlinks, and I never have any trouble but a single one. So I am thinking, is it worth to publish articles on Medium versus your own blog?.

In my opinion:
Pro of Medium
- It's for free.
- Users don't need to create an account, it has an audience. I don't know if it's really powerful.

However.

- It lacks SEO features, we can't install analytics and misses any way to measure the audience, so we are blind.
- I didn't like to be shadow-banned, especially if I am innocent (I was shadow banned for an article that I followed the rules). I tried to appeal, but it was useless. I don't mind to be banned if it's fair and if I break a rule (and I break some rules but not this time).
- Maybe some people care about ads, but I don't profit from ads or sell a product (I'm more of the kind that shills for a specific audience).

I am working on a blog system, but I'm not so sure if I should keep working on Medium (maybe spinning my own articles but I'm not so sure.).

What I like of Medium is: it's free, and the platform is clean (unlikely blogger and Word press that they look ugly).

I use medium only to distribute short versions of articles from my site, so those who interested can click link and read the full version on the site itself.

there's no customization. i'd never use it as my main site. They also have their own incentives so they sometimes have these annoying pop ups.

it can be useful for driving traffic though, but i'd never use it as my main

Create a killer title that'd draw readers in on Medium. Then offer them a short version of your content and a link back to your site. Good for generating traffic.

Why would you even compare Blogger/WP and Medium? They're quite different...
Medium already has an audience while your blog on one of these 2 platforms doesn't really.

how do you best make it a short article

Use open loops on the intro of the content.

Explanation:

Ever had an amazing TV show that you couldn't take your eyes off? A book that you couldn't close off?

If so, congrats. You've been through open loops, aka the Zeigarnik effect.

Open loops seduce our brain's natural temptation for completion. The brain enters a mode of confusion or tension when it finds something incomplete. It could be for simple reasons like a question, a story or even a chore you didn't complete. And the only way of ending the tension or confusion is closing the open loop.

When writing copy, an open is a part of that doesn't tie up instantly. Applying open loops is easy and makes your copy more attractive right away. Here is an open loop instance from CopyHour landing page.

The writer starts off with discussing a mysterious secret used by copywriters to fine-tune their pieces and end up making barrels of cash - making you wonder what this secret is.

However, the writer doesn't stop there. The copy keeps dangling the secret right before your face, strengthening your curiosity and getting you more interested to find out what is actually is, consequently, bumping up the conversion.

It's easy to implement open loops.

The most effortless way to start is by asking more questions and vaguely imply on them. Just as the example above. This lack of completion gets your reader more curious and invested in your writing.

I haven't published standalone content on Medium. I use it for re-publishing blog posts from my blog 1 or 2 weeks after I publish them to get a backlink & some traffic.

I've been getting some followers on Medium as my content gets discovered so I look at it as a free way to reach more people without spending almost any extra time.

Other popular writers use it as a lead gen magnet with posts specifically made for Medium (you know the ones I'm talking about if you've spend any time on the site), with a link to a squeeze page at the end of the post.

This will be a bit non BHW type advice, but I've found it easy to acquire a huge following in very short terms via getting viral on Medium frequently. That makes it extremely easy for me to carry out whitehat marketing stuff. Plus, you can always write on other pubs, gaining a shit load of followers and traffic if you are smart enough.

I think it’s best to use medium as a distribution platform.

If you publish to publications on their own domain then you can get SEO benefits.
