I 'd be very happy if my age was such that I had to do homework :D Unfortunately though, I must graduate from kindergarten first :o

frankly, if I could go back, I would choose Math as my major. After more than 15 years code development work, I realize that coding is relatively simple, and the Math (algorithm) behind the coding worth much much more than coding itself.

Math doesn't really reflect one's intellect IMO.

I am sure you know how to do Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication. That's more than enough to live in this world..lol

You don't need to learn calculas and other complicated stuff. Its only for those who want to make their career in certain fields. In our country we are forced to study maths uptil 10th(Basic maths) after which its all upto us whether we want to choose it or not
 
Lol you suck at math because you think you do.

when you look at it, it looks like you need to be a genius to solve that, you think what the heck is this and how do i resolve this but when somebody explains it to you or you read the book that explains it, you will say this is fking easy.

I failed hard because when I looked in my book I thought wtf.
but then I actually toke action and it was easy peasy.

I think what confuses me most is the symbols and all the letters and stuff like that. When I look at these things I find it hard to memorize what is what.

I guess I will reevaluate where I stand and look into it, I feel like I can do it, but it feels like it's going to be a lot of work starting with the basics which is kind of off-putting.
 
You're a dummy only when you watch KhanAcademy's videos and don't understand jack. He explains everything step by step and keeps repeating certain things that sometimes it gets boring.

Maths is needed everywhere, in every subject you use. I don't find a lot of use of it in programming but you should know at least some discrete mathematics. If you want to develop real 3D games like Crysis, Battlefield, Call of Duty etc. then you need very good knowledge in all fields of maths and that would require at least 1.5 years of hard study.

Just find a good book. I honestly suck hard at math. The reason is that during school the books they used to teach had no explanations. When I started to learn algebra in school they never explained what X was beyond "it's a number". To me then, it was a letter and not a number. The book they had said the same thing, it's a number. They didnt say it was a placeholder for a number. There was also no explanations for any of the formulas. Just that this formula did this and should equal this when you use these numbers. Didnt explain the steps to get to that point or why it's like it is.

Then later I was referred a book to look at and it made so much more sense because they gave like 5 different examples with varying difficulties.


Math is hard if your teacher and material are shit.

That is so true and sounds so like me.

I used to enjoy Math at one point in life as it got my brain working, but that was when the teacher explained things with an understanding.

Do you by any chance remember which book it was?
 
Honestly, I am in a similar situation as you are.

For the past few years I did not like Math at all because I just did not understand it. However, just recently I have started taking private lessons in Math and now that I actually do understand the problems it seems more interesting than ever!

The thing is though, I don't understand Geometry... It's something I really don't like because I just don't get it whereas it is the opposite for Algebra. I believe Geometry has something to do with logic and imagination while Algebra is more about learning how to use various formulas etc.

Despite all that, I am thinking of studying computer science in my near future.

Oh, by the way, to answer your question, is it Math necessary, I would say no. In my opinion you can still be successful without learning Math, although it can help.
 
It just depends what you're trying to do, to automate the web you don't have to do any math really. And if you do for some reason, you can simply google the answer. It's just a weird question OP, if you're going to do projects where you need math knowledge, then learn it; if not.. well then don't. I've made so many bots and I never had to use any math, willpower and endurance pretty much beats everything. But if you have time, learn it; it cannot hurt.

You, Sir, just depicted my childhood. :D I sucked at maths solely because of this. Above all, teachers during school days had created a phobia about maths, so I was damn scared while appearing for Maths papers. Once I started low marks, my interest started fading and eventually I started hating maths. That's the life story of many students.

And, Maths is important in our life. However, I don't consider stuffs like integration and differentiation have any value in our day-to-day life, so students should have choice to skip them.
