Overpriced luxury item. With 2/3 the $ you can buy a much more powerful machine.

Depends what your "productivity" is. Personally I dislike the OS and its ecosystem as I find them very limiting for my things, but hardware and design are good. If you're looking for "value for money", no - as @bartosimpsonio said, it's a luxury item, you're mostly buying the logo.

The best solution is to buy a surface pro, and run windows and mac os on it.
With windows you simply can do everything. with mac os you can just do something.
Mac increase the productivity? I don't think so. I have switched back to windows.
If you're not a mac os/ios developer, you don't need a mac book.

Doesn't care for specs? You mean isn't a nerd who dribbles over their fancy new graphics card GTX091029283 superdrive ? You can customize macs, before you buy, just not in an incredibly nerdy and unneccasary way.
"Overpriced luxury item" LMAO, I've had a MBP for 5 years now and its still going great. Now, my windows laptops prior to me switching to Mac, lasted about 2 years then BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH lmao wtf is that windows sucks
Yeah you pay more for the apple logo, but in terms of quality, design and performance, macs are great. It's pricey but defo worth it for something that lasts years and years.

I do not think the markup is worth the price of the MacBook ecosystem. There are plenty of high quality laptops with the same system specifications out there at a much better price point. Personally, I use Linux on all of my devices except for a autocad/gaming computer. On a work laptop it helps keep me focused and productive, especially in the earlier years where gaming support was not as widespread. For a long time DEs such as Gnome or KDE had extra features that Windows didn't have until W10 that greatly improved productivity e.g workspaces.

That depends on what you're looking for. I for one have everything Apple, and like you about 5 years ago was completely against apple products. After finally biting the bullet and trying an iPhone, I now have Apple Watch, iPhone, Airpods, 2 MacBook pros and 2 iPads. Everything works together and I'm happy with the product line.
Now, if you don't have the money to spend on the products then a Windows or Linux machine will work just as good for you. It's all about what 'worth it' means to you.

I personally won't get macbook, although once I planned on getting one.
As a writer, I always wanted the long battery backup, and macbook offered like 9 hours.
However, I could get a windows laptop with 13h-15h backup for about half the price.
Plus, a lot of SEO/marketing tools exist only for windows.
However, macbooks do look beautiful, I'd give them that.
The only reasons why I'd ever buy one is either when I have a lot of cash rolling around or I'm hell-bent on showing off

Same as any phone vs iPhone. You can have the highest configuration but Apple gonna beat u cuz they using their own system. Buy it!
And don’t be afraid of windows apps. My Mac is running windows like in fusion. I see Mac but I can open windows apps anytime without restart. (I have actual windows, not some app that acts like windows)

If you want great build quality, then yes. I use 12" Macbook & 4.7" iPhone 8 (both silver). I like portable & lightweight things. I also like MacOS as it is built on UNIX and has most of the apps I need. I will not switch to other brands because they have stopped manufacturing quality small smartphones. Everything is 5.5" and above if you want great processor, build quality & camera.

Will it burn a hole in your pocket?
If NO, then go for it since you won't regret anyway.
But honestly, it has nothing to do with productivity. If your soul is addicted to gaming/movies/porn/procrastinating then there isn't a book that will save you from that, be it macbook or library book!

I'm a programmer myself as well, I don't do much of the other stuff you mentioned and to be honest I could not even begin to comprehend trying to do any of that shit on a portable machine. If I am looking to be productive it is with a desktop keyboard and mouse and much more screen real estate.
Even the best laptop is going to be as much or more of a limiter to me than a Mac vs Windows though Mac OS always feels more toy like than anything to me, how people shoe horn it into their work flow is beyond me but fair play to you mate.
If you find Mac better for your needs then that is great for you and I advise you stick with what works for you.

It isn't about getting the latest nerdy goodness or even knowing what is in a machine. If you take machine X from a PC maker at $1000 and a Mac at $1000 you are probably looking at a world of difference in what you can do with them as far as speed of machine is concerned.
If I am compiling code or exporting media that takes a lot of CPU cycles I probably don't care what is in either machine providing it gets the job done as quickly as possible for the price. Mac's generally don't offer good performance for the price.
