Seems like Google doesn't like link building anymore. Is it dead now?My Scrapebox hasn't been used in over a year.I think google might be against tier 1,2 and 3 links as well. Are you getting any results with building backlinks?
I used to have no issues ranking a site until the first big Google update in 2011.I kept up with it for awhile using web 2.0's and link pyramids but never got good results.
On a serious note OP:
Backlinking will be something we will need to do for a long time to come (IMHO). It's the quality of the backlinks that have changed. You may not want to use link wheels, but a good tiered linking system will do you well. Just make sure you're understanding what you're doing and why you're doing it that way.
you have to unblock the links diversity shakra to be able to rank.
google likes to see good quality genuine diversified links + social signal.
combine that with good content and you will rank anything you want

He's kidding and I hope you know that. Despite any or future updates, Link Building is still the foundation and premise for SEO and is still important. What's important as you should already know is not the number of links you have but the quality of those links so if you're doing Link Building or if you're paying someone to build links for you, make sure you're building quality links on a steady consistent basis and you'll start noticing positive results if this is done properly.
Thanks for the tips.Just sucks when something is working then google changes with stupid updates and you have to rework everything or get the big slap.I got rid of all my domains and got out of the SEO game for a good while.Right now I'm working with blogger and created a few sites.I figure since it's googles maybe they will rank better. So basically I'm going to have to spend the week reading the forum and re-learning link building.
OP, its not dead!
kindly check may be you are overlooking at things ... just as tompots said , it still remains the juice...you may never be able to get rid of link building... its may not be 'that' important but its a part of internet.
there are several threads of the same topic floating around..
Obviously it is not dead, never has been and likely will never be dead.
It will always be about diversifying. Having a diverse backlink profile has always been key and is more important now than ever. Is it hard? Hell no, just don't rely on one source of backlinks and you will be fine, just as always.
