Just a simple question:

IS LIFE HARD?

My opinion is that life is what you make it to be. Yes, it can be hard but it can also be very easy. I heard that life is hard about 100 times this week. I just want to hear the opinion of the BHW community about the difficulty of life.

Let's philosophize for a moment...

In Taoisim, they talk about resolving polarities. In this world we have Left/Right, Day/Night, Pain/Pleasure, Health/Illness, Inside/Outside, Good/Bad, Hard/Easy, etc.

Some people call them opposites, but actually they are mutually dependent upon each other. You can't have one without the other. They depend on each other for their own existence.

The Yin-Yang symbol is a representation of polarities. The dark half of the symbol has a white dot in it and the white half of the symbol has a dark dot in it. It means that each contains the "seed" of the other.

Once you truly understand the Yin-Yang, then you come to realize that there is no such thing as opposites.

So, to answer your question, "Is Life Hard?" . . . It is neither hard nor easy. It just is what it is . . .

Depends on the way you look at it...You can choose to make your life harder by being irresponsible or lazy, or you could take pride in your work and do the best you can which generally results in seeing the fruits of your labor.

I believe that lazy people and just plain out right people complain about life being hard. Don't get me wrong i do it from time to time too...But the important part is to realize that if you stop you fall...As long as you don't stop working you'll never have time to complain about life being hard...

Before life hits you...I suggest you kick life in the nutz...Atleast you'll have the "field goal" advantage
 
Sometimes life is hard, but when im at computer life is easy and nice :) If im not programming some programs or making websites, usualy when i do that ill smoke 1 pack sicorets in 1 hour :) Dont know does that have anything to do with this question that is life hard..

But sometimes yes..
 
from my experience everything worth having/doing is hard.

THE HARDER it is, THE BIGGER the rewards.
 
I believe it depends on the situation. Take three scenarios:

Scenario #1

You live in Mexico. You've always lived in Mexico. You always will live in Mexico. (Or any other foreign country for that matter) You live in a poor little house in a poor little town with your poor little family of 8. Your father left because he is a dead beat dad that just wants to reproduce and continue to give a life of misery to the children he creates. You have nothing but your mother and 7 younger brothers and sisters to care for. You have to quit school at third grade just so you can work in the fields for the rest of your life bringing home what little food you can afford. You want to better your life but as much as you want to, your life is already set from your birth. YOUR life's purpose was to give THEM a better life. They grow up, they are at least a little better off, and they thank you for what you've done for them. YOU have served your purpose, YOUR life was just so THEY could have one. Your entire life was nothing but hard labor, stress, and appreciation. And when you look back, it seems as if you amounted to nothing.

Scenario #2

From the moment you were born, you had a gold pacifier in your mouth. You were born into wealth. You grew up with all the toys, you had all the latest games, you were "happy" as can be. You never really needed to work, mommy and daddy always gave everything to you, because they wanted to give you a great childhood like they never had. So when you wanted something, you got it. At 16 you were the one driving the super expensive car when you know that there would be no way a 16 year old could afford this. Friends always wanted to visit you in high school because of all the great fun things that you had. Well, Mom and Dad eventually wanted to teach you the value of a dollar and get you a job in the town. You were pampered so much you never really knew what work was. So they got you a job at the local fast food joint. For the first week you were new and that was your excuse, but when you consistently messed up, never did what you were told, and simply didn't show up to shifts because you were *cough* sick? The manager had enough. He sat that kid down and told him straight up how he's been in this business for 7 years, and he's never found a more lazy person to work with. So for the next 3 weeks the manager put the kid to work to test just how much a spine this kid had. He scrubbed toilets, he scrubbed oil stains of the parking lot, he sprayed all the awnings outside, he even watered the fake plants. Well, needless to say, he quit. And the sad part is, I don't think he learned anything from it. He never valued his checks even when everyone else did, he never appreciated anything. His life was given to him. HIS parents did all the hard work already, so HE didn't have to. An entire lifetime of work already done just so he never had to. HIS life must be easy..

Scenario #3

So you are a bright student, always did well in school, and held a consistent job since you were 16. You had a beat up car that you bought for 1k and always had dreams of becoming more. And how do you do that? School of course! So you plan to continue school and be the first to graduate in your family, but you realize just how expensive it is. You try federal aid but your parents make too much to help. Bull! They barely make it over the minimum, and they couldn't help much even if I asked them. So I guess I need to work for my education myself. So full time work and full time school for 4 years and I finally got my AA degree. Shouldn't have taken me that long but 40hrs of work and 20hrs of school a week? How does the government expect of to accomplish anything in life? It's a no win situation. You either 1) Have the money to devote to school full time and get a better paying job than minimum wage, or 2) stop going to school because you'll never pass it and stay at the pathetic job you already have and amount to nothing more in life. I just don't understand how difficult it is. What if you don't have the 10k to throw down right away? Whatever...I accomplished what I want in life, so I turned to IM and all my friends here at BHW. I'm doing ok, nothing fantastic, but I'm going to work for what I want in life.

I am studying spiritual topics for many years and couldn't agree more with Wiz.

To me the most important sentence in his post was...

" Is Life Hard? . . . It is neither hard nor easy. It just is what it is . . ."

However, most people don't have the deep spiritual understanding necessary to FULLY comprehend this clear, simple truth.

So, most people will always depend on their deeply anchored inner belief system. If they think/believe that life is hard (for whatever reasons), their life will be just that...hard.

On the other hand, if they think life is easy and fun (again for whatever reasons), they just go through life with ease.

For example, don't look at cars as a expensive/good looking or inexpensive/bad looking.
But look at them as what they are, four wheels, a steer and a engine.
Ask yourself what if you need something, or just want it.
Relativation is good quality to teach yourself.

Everybody needs to find there own mix.
Some are happy chasing success, go getters willing to give up everything.
But thats very depressing for others.

Find what is the minimum you need in life.
For me it was sunshine and jazz.
Everything in addition to that is extra joy.
Life is as complex as you want it to be.

Totally agree, I look at things the same way you do, I think most of the population is just brainwashed and everybody thinks the same, money money money success bla bla bla etc.. look at the things you have and be thankful for it, don't just say thank you, actually thank, after you accept that you are happy with what you are, thats when the desert comes in by itself.
 
Life is hard when you focus yourself on what you don't have and on who you are not.

Life is easy when you focus yourself on what you do have and who you truly are.

Your call.

I 100% agree with you on Scenario #2 hah it's ANNOYING as hell I moved from the projects in Queens NYC to this wealthy suburban area in the south which reminds me of "The OC" and EVERY TEENAGER / COLLEGE KID who is wealthy reminds me of Scenario #2 no BULLSHIT! whats even more fucked up is that these rich people used up all the credit in the country meaning they BORROWED SO MUCH MONEY that they could NOT PAY IT BACK so we are facing a recession now. Guess what? People in the HOOD don't borrow CREDIT they WORK and PAY everything CASH most of the time but what do these people do? BORROW CREDIT THAT NEVER EXISTED. Took an IOI and bought their fancy real estate, cars, etc with nonexistent money.

For example where i'm from teens work hard labor jobs to save and purchase their honda accords or toyota corollas while the RICH 20 something year old gets approve for a $30,000 credit loan at his/her bank with parents co signing. a $30,000 loan that is impossible for him to pay off as a young individual at 20 but still he budgets the money into a brand new sport car that will get him ZERO respect in life from anyone because of his spoiled reputation. These rich kids never figure out that the person that struggled to earned their BMW is more respected than them because of his/her background and he's more than likely entitled to be applaud by others driving it. Its why people like eminem so much because of his struggle you won't see eminem being mocked at for driving a lambo but if you see someone like george bush in a lambo you'd be like "WOW GIVE BACK THE POOR PEOPLE THEIR MONEY YOU THIEF!!!" haha

But anyways to all the false "rich people" in america living off of credit what they need to do is MOVE OUT into the cheaper neighborhoods like EVERYONE else who didn't have a choice. Problem is this is not possible because they will continue to use false money that doesn't exist to own everything they have. Don't get me wrong it's great that these wealthy people figured out the SECRET to living in America but do they care about the lower class people that they hurt? Nope greed for money and a comfortable life is worth killing for to them.

I forgot to mention that rich people don't work for money lol they don't know the meaning of work they are trained to BORROW credit which is OKAY because that is the way to the AMERICAN DREAM that they've always kept quiet about.

Rich people borrow money all the time. They buy one house, get it partly paid off, refinance it to buy another house, get partially paid off and refinance that to buy a business property. Trust me, I know. That's what my dad has done for 30 years.

The reason that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is because the rich know how to leverage a dollar and make it 3. The poor don't have that knowledge (or the money to leverage) so they save and scrimp just to get by.

If you think that rich people don't borrow money, you've obviously never heard the story of Donald Trump... Google donald trump beggar million

Very interesting replies, especially from Wiz. I am in the army now (that's why it takes me a decade to respond) and the sure thing is that I see life very different here. There some people that always complain about how hard army is and all that shit and there some others that do what it takes and have fun with it.

Thanks people for making me realize that there is no hard or easy.
 
well here's my take on it (i guess its similar to what a lot of people have already said) -

'hard' and 'easy' are not an intrinsic properties of life. they only exist in your own perception of life (which is entirely inside your head). so to flip the switch from hard to easy, you simply have to change the way you think about things. if you were to pursue the question of just how to do that though, that rabbit hole goes very deep... ;)

as for something practical you can do to make your life a little easier right now -
log in to your bank account, and download your entire transaction history for the past year. open it with excel. ignore the deposits and add up all the withdrawls, and divide the total by 365. the number you get is exactly how much money you need to make with IM every day to live off of it indefinitely. (sorta gives you a solid goal to shoot for). :)
