Is Learning to Code Still Worth It in 2026?

I've been thinking about learning programming, but with AI writing code faster than ever, I'm wondering if it's still worth investing the time.

For those who code professionally or use it in your business:

What language would you learn first today?
Has AI made your job easier or harder?
If you were starting from scratch, what path would you take?

Would appreciate advice from people with real experience. Thanks!

From my personal experience, i'd get a hands on experience in a project you want to build, rather than focusing on learning any specific language. With ai everything's faster, but also easier. But from my experience building a lot of things, if i'd absolutelly needed to point something, it would be php and js. Because almost everything else is derived from then. Even if the logic might be based on C++, i'd rather get the general understanding of php and js, and probably you'd cover 85 - 90% of all codes
 
ai is getting better and better every month but it still good to know the basics and learn to code so you can understand when the ai does something wrong.
 
Yes, obviously. AI has made coding faster, but it hasn't removed the need to understand how software works. If you can't read, debug, or improve the code AI generates, you'll hit a wall pretty quickly.

Start to learn python first because it is useful for automation, AI, web development, and scripting.
 
In my opinion AI makes better website but the bugs in the code it will not solve a developer can identify the bugs and solve them , so I prefer you to learn programming
 
yeah coding is still worth it but the focus has shifted. you don't need to memorize syntax anymore, you just need to understand how things connect. if you want to do any real marketing automation or scraping, ai will write the basic script but you still need to know how to debug it when a proxy fails or cloudflare blocks you. id start with python. it is easy to get into and lets you build bots and scrapers quickly. just use ai to generate the bulk of the code and you do the troubleshooting.
 
Yes is still worth to learn the basic processes required so you can ask ai to code more effective compared to a newbiew who will only say in general what need to be build by AI. I will however not waste time to learn to code myself but to learn the processes and basic principles is still very usefull

Yeah @Wraithed makes a good point about the network tab. honestly, if you are doing anything related to marketing or automation, understanding HTTP requests, headers, and cookies is way more useful than memorizing syntax. AI is great for pumping out the basic structure, but it always messes up the actual scraping logic or API integration because endpoints change. python is probably the easiest to start with because the syntax is simple, but JS is also solid since you can use it right in the browser console. just don't spend months on basic syntax tutorials... pick a small project like a basic scraper, let AI write the first draft, and then figure out how to fix it when it inevitably breaks. That is where the actual learning happens now.
 
ai is basically like hiring a fast but cheap intern who lies to your face when they make a mistake. if you don't know enough to spot the hallucinated libraries or wrong api endpoints, you'll waste days trying to run broken code. i still use python daily for scripting and automation. instead of doing syntax courses, just try to build a basic account creator or some scraper. when cloudflare or a missing header blocks you, that is where the real learning starts. you don't need to be a senior dev, just need to know enough to debug what the ai spits out.
 
I think coding is still worth learning in 2026 AI can speed up development, but understanding how the code works makes it much easier to build and fix things properly
 
Firstly you should focus and learn the basic of Coding so that Ai can help in running and building the program.
Secondly you don't have to independent on Ai as it can make errors in the code as well as it would create program as per your requirements.So yeah Learning coding in 2026 is useful as us (humans) can't be dependent on Ai.
