Is Kindle Still Worth It?

Do you think Kindle is still worth the time and effort for someone starting from scratch? Will it even be worth the monetary investment? Like say I invest $100 for an eBook that's 10,000 words, will that still net an average profit? Or is that too short/now completely depends on quality (which isn't a problem for me but still).
