Hi,

I've started a new project a couple of months ago and I am currently externalizing all the content generation (I do provide content instructions and detailed keyword list), but I am manually uploading and editing the content in Wordpress.

Doing internal linking manually is the task that consumes the most of the time I devote to the project, as it also requires me to update a pretty detailed document I am using for keeping control over the links.

I assume I cannot expect the same level of effectiveness using a plugin, but is it a great time saver? I mean, do they generate relevant internal links or just crappy links based on "who know what"?

I want to publish more content, but I in order to do that I need to automatize as much tasks as I can, being internal linking the most urgent one.

Thanks to anyone who will give feedback and/or hints for the best plugin to use (based on personal experience, I have already did my research but I would like to heard real feedback).

Internal link building is underrated imo. Link whisper is the one you should go for.

If you have thousands of posts or even more then you got no choice but to use them or hire va to do it. Else check whats working currently like >>reverse silo<< and interlink accordingly.

Not thousands yet, but already hundreds. So yes, I am heading in that direction. I've been taking care of some important tasks until now and provided instructions/trained content writers as much as I could (now I am very happy with the content produced) and hire/train someone for this task could be also very time consuming (until the work is done the way I want it to be done).

That is why I was thinking about plugin, but I've read terrible reviews online. This is why I'd like to have feedback from someone who is actually using the plugin and, possibly, getting good result.

The problem with internal linking plugins like Link Whisper and others is that their linking system, at the end of the day, is very clunky.

There's really no getting around this conclusion.

You have to understand that they were created primarily to save your time, but this is precisely the problem.

Internal linking has to be the product of a careful process.

Because you have to understand that your're linking your content not just for Google.

It's great if Google is able to index all your content and rank them well. That's awesome.

But at the end of the day, you should be linking for real people because that's what produces a better user content consumption experience.

As you probably already know, thanks to Google's RankBrain update, user experience is an integral part of Google's page ranking algorithm.

So you can't afford to screw around with random internal linking.

Sure, it's great that you internally linked your content using the target keywords, but it's much better if you use calls-to-action and the linking makes sense.

What do I mean by that?

When people are looking at one piece of content, when they click on a link, the resulting page is a logical extension of the content they came from.

If you can make sense of this, then you will have a workable internal linking strategy.

Otherwise, it's basically just going to be a "random content salad."

It might not have the intended positive effect as far as your rankings go.
