Create a very specific micro site about something, for example ''best craft courses''. The single page of the site would be quite extensive, optimized for SEO, place several affiliate links. Buy backlinks and invest in SEO for that site and focus on just one keyword.

Is it worth it or would this site have no chance to compete with sites with hundreds or thousands of pages?

Yes if that is what you need. usually for landing page, from ads etc.
no matter how you optimize it , SEO on one page site won't be able to compete with sited that have hundreds or thousand of pages

With a single-page site, it is not possible to compete with other sites that have more number of pages.
 
A one-page site can be good as a landing page where later you'll want to bring traffic to.
For SEO purposes, google will never rank your page for being a one-page site. Maybe a one-punch to smack you.
 
Yes, more people are already doing that. So, don't wait anymore. Pick the right keyword that's most important in this area.
 
Very hard to rank it or get any type of success with this. Google wants authority blogs now.
 
I wouldn't suggest it because it's like putting all your eggs in one basket.

As you probably already know, you must stick your finger into many different pies regarding on-page optimization.

Any single variable can sink your chances of ranking decently for your target keyword.

I suggest you make your main page the sales or conversion page for your site.

For the rest of your marketing, put up a blog on the same domain, so you get a chance to boost your domain authority when you publish informative content.

Given enough time, this paves the way for your main page to rank higher, provided it answers the search intent for your main commercial keyword.

By search intent, I'm not talking about the type of content; I'm talking about what people expect when they type in a keyword.

Think about the experience the people are looking for and deliver on it.
 
I still see one page sites being used the the adult industry. Sort of like link exchange programs

Example :pornwebmasters.com (NOT my website, found this as an example)

So technically it can be done in 2022 though the number of use cases for 1 page sites is dimishing rapidly

Can anyone tell me what they use to make these one page directory sites?

Such as the one I just posted. They all have that similar look with those little lists and all those sections. Can anyone tell me what they use to make these?
 
I am sure it will not work in 2022.

(But if I were in your place, I would still have gone ahead and created such a single page site as required and tested it for results - just as an experiment. It won't cost much to do this.)

I get answers to most of my questions this way - by actually doing it.
 
It makes the same sense as making a page or blog post on any other website in the same niche and optimising it for ranking. The disadvantage is that you can only optimise that website for a main keyword and those derived from it, but not for other different keywords or grow within the niche.

Not recommended. If you are very serious to rank your keyword, you have to work more than what your competitors doing now.

Impossible to beat your competitor even if you spend around $5000 per month on SEO.

Google encourages very informative and active websites nowadays.
 
You might be able to rank this type of website. But there is no future of this content. You will live in fear that it will be destroyed in next update.
 
I have many 1-page sites, and many 1000s-page sites.
it depends on the use case.
For example, for some types of calculators, or tools, 1-page is doing the work good, optimized and ranked for 100s and 1000s of keywords even if not mentioned exactly on the page.
For info sites, multiple pages are preferred IMO.
 
No such a website is useless in current times. Such websites used to make money when internet started and less people were competing.
