Is it the full moon, or what?

I remember years ago BHW had problems with spammers every now and again. It also had a few idiots trying hard to boost their post counts with fairly inane and useless posts. However, it wasn't so bad that you noticed it much. It was a problem, not an epidemic. Plus many were at least creative and sneaky about it.

I began noticing a couple of months ago that this trend was more than in the past, by about 3 or 4 times (compared to like 6 or so years ago or more)...

However, within the last 3 weeks, I have noticed this trend has reached BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS! I never really paid such stuff much mind, perhaps I'm getting grumpy and critical in my old age, or perhaps it really is at an insane level of like an attack of the zombie hordes these days? I don't really know for sure, but I believe it has gotten way worse lately. Is there something I am missing? Is it the Christmas season? Or perhaps the full moon this week?

I mean it seems the zombies are more audacious, more lazy, more determined, and they are coming in larger numbers.

I don't get it, why is it so insane now? It's not like BHW is new to getting a lot of traffic, and people should know by now that they can't get away with such crap, so why the huge increase?

I normally wouldn't be annoyed by this, but it is like every thread I read, I have to wade through idiotic posts that are so lazy and contrived, or completely off topic, most seemingly done by bots. Is this some form of attack? Does somebody have it in for the community here? It ruins my leisurely reading and participating, and I'm sure most other regular visitors and members feel the same way!

Anyway, who thinks I am right, or who thinks that I am overreacting? I really don't think it's just me that finds this to be an annoyance and an epidemic...

Over the last month or so Im finding lots of spam posts at certain times of the day but all without any links, just crap comments describing some crap product

Oh that has been a problem lately as well, but that is absolutely without a doubt some idiots botting. What I'm annoyed with is all the inane posts like "bitcoin is the currency of future." and all the necro posting going on, etc.

Admittedly, 2017 members have generally been my least favourite members. It's possible the forum has picked up a "new audience", kind of like back in 2015 when we got a surge in the number of members thinking this was a "deep web" website. Or again in 2015 when "Blackhat" the movie came out and people were landing on this forum thinking it was a hacking forum. You'll notice that the former group has stuck around for the most part, still trying to discuss the deep web.

I vote that BHW stop counting posts in the Crypto section as is in the lounge. That will thin it out a bit IMO

The Crypto section of BHW is page one in Google for "cryptocurrency forum". That might have something to do with it.

I'd also blame it in part to the decline in popularity of the other forums that were once the "Big Four" (the other three being WickedFire, Warrior Forum, and Digital Point). For those of us not interested in Skype groups, Facebook groups, etc, the options are slim for places we can actually engage in discussion.

That and a lot of BST titles push the notion of "get rich quick", which likely brings more new members with English writing difficulties. Especially those spamming to fifteen posts in an attempt to break the forum rules and PM people regarding freelancer positions. I feel as if that section should be hidden for non-registered members now that only Jr. VIP and above can reply.

There has also been exponential growth in high-reply thread sellers in the BST requiring members to post in their thread before they consider an order viable. This leads to members with just a few posts spamming "ordered", "review plz", etc and then abandoning their accounts.

Additionally, I could only assume that the massive influx of BST thread submissions has led to time that could be spent culling spam being allocated towards marketplace reviews, and putting out fires in the meantime. But I'm not a mod and I'm just inferring based on what I've seen and heard.

Whatever the newest fad is that gets people the most money in the shortest time with the smallest amount of actual work will reign supreme. Once Bitcoin crashes and Instagram siphons off the last of the bot capabilities, there will be another lull until the next big thing comes along. Rinse and repeat.

A lot of posts related to bitcoins and other crypto currencies are also popping up here.

the bots keep coming like this forum is full with audience similar to facebook who believe fake news.
we here can sense BS crap faster than reddit. anyway who farms these BHW bots? open a BST and make some money! lol

Yeah, Ive been lurking since the early 2000's. Never had a need to register because I just bought services and read methods. I registered in 2016 when I decided to sell bots. Still have not pulled the trigger on a BST yet though. I have a lot of work to finish beforehand. Honestly, I don't recall you from back then and see you joined 2013, yeah I was here long before that, lol!

I'm not big on reporting, never was. But I find myself doing it nowadays and really don't want to. I understand that it is the only way to clean up the forum though, so I reluctantly do it. That's my whole point, it was never needed IMO until recent years.

Really Sherbert that is the best breakdown on the topic I could hope for, you are on target for sure. I have to agree on all points. I haven't visited the Warrior Forum much since it was bought by freelancer, and never really liked it anyway as it was a newbie black hole and a place for jerks to sell their crappy systems that we got better for free by reading here. WikedFire was always a toilet and I rather go to GFY and deal with that community than wicked any day. I haven't visited that forum in many years. And DP, lol don't get me started on them! They are like the warrior forum but with hoodrats and spastics running the show.

Another thing I have seen an annoying amount of recently, and that I combat in my own way at every turn, is the idiots constantly looking for spoon-fed ways to "make big bucks quickly", or begging threads. Sooooooo ANNOYING! I am sure you all will agree!

McDonalds will hopefully have a huge influx of new blood thanks to my efforts here, as I'm on it full time sending them zombies and thumb suckers!

I still stand by the (old version of the) WickedFire Enlightened Members section being a pool of pure gold as far as information and methods were concerned. Before the good stuff went private and the owner went batshit greedy and started charging $50 a month to view that section, there was such good discussion and concepts.

I blended a few of the threads in there together and formed my ORM firm with the ideas together. Made me a few hundred thousand dollars over the past four or so years. Check out that section, and then use Wayback Machine on the thread URL's to get the public cached versions before the sections went private, and you'll see what I mean.

But that place is completely dead and useless now. 0/10 would not recommend to anyone except to look at archived beauty.

Alot of old posts are also being revived lately, and by old I mean 8 year old threads, always by people that have just joined that day and commenting the same to every post!

That reminds me, I've also been seeing more of my pleb friends on Facebook sharing cryptocurrency videos. Usually, when I see them sharing videos on a subject, I know it's becoming mainstream, or as Sherbert referred to it, the newest fad.

Any way to block all activity of an entire subforum? I want to puke my guts out at all the coinversations...
