Is it safe to use Google images? Did you ever receive DMCA complaints for images?

It does not matter. It still cannot be used without your permission. If content - pictures, articles, art, photos are private and original they are considered protected and even copyrighted. DMCA .com can get that content taken down for you.

But, there are site that provide free to use images like unsplash(dot)com.

Adding on top of what @moumen said, using images that already exist is considered bad for SEO, because it's not unique.
So even if you used images you bought or downloaded leagally, you need to modify them.

You need to filter by use type and even then it's not always 100% accurate as to what is free for reuse and what is free for commercial use. I very rarely use images from them, but if I'm looking to get an idea for an image I'll use them as a first stop to see what type of question mark images are out there, for example. I'll usually end-up on an image repository, like unsplash or pixabay, to download or even purchase the image I want. I name the file with the place it was downloaded from as well and even save it in a directory by download location so if I ever do get another nasty-gram, I have the evidence that I acquired it legally.

If you're looking to rank in a google images search, you will have a harder time. If you just need window dressing for your website/blog content/product page/etc. then it shouldn't matter as the content will be what gets you listed.

Back when flash games were popular I used to Run a Couple game portals. Thousands of images and never a complaint. I guess it depends exactly what’s the picture about as flash games are bound to have somewhat the same pic regardless.

Piggybacking off of this reply, even when you use these images, consider editing them slightly in Photoshop a little.

I doubt that really helps avoid detection of copyrighted images, but every little bit helps.

But that does not mean it is safe. It can result even in legal notice some day.

No it is not safe to use such images. Use from stock photos, there are sites that provide such images for free.

It really depends on what you mean by images if you mean copyright images or owns owned by companies then it's a bad image but if you get ones without copyright issues it's normally no problem overall.
