Is it possible to take down a FB private group?

How did you hear about that group. If you are still member then it is highly possible. But if you are not then it is quite tough since you don't have any proof of that.

You can mass report it if illegal items are sold there.
 
If they're openly selling prohibited stuff, eventually somebody reports it. The timeline is the part nobody can predict
