Just a quick question for the pros.

Is it possible to rank in any way, shape or form for keywords that are not in your website text, strictly from link anchor text?

Been on my mind for a while.

If you have high quality backlinks for the keyword, then yes, it's possible. It helps if the keyword is related to your actual content. For example, if my SEO focus is "web development," but I want to rank for "ajax programmer," I can do so with high quality backlinks if the keyword is not on the page.

Obviously these are related keywords, and it's a lot easier to do that than rank for "porn" which isn't even remotely related.

I've done this with broader keywords and very specific local keywords and it works, but you may as well put the keywords on your page as well unless there's a good reason for not doing so.

I don't think its impossible. But if you follow the BH methods its possible. but its not gonna be so easy. so avoid these things.

yes it is possible, if your site have good quality backlinks then your site will be rank. IF you not have backlinks then its not possible to rank them.

Also If your keyword is synopsis to the targeted keyword and have some backlinks, you will surely rank. Like "Rental" and "Hire"
