Sure in fact this is the best way to achieve this because if you put "reddit" after your keywords, Google may search for reddit related topics preferently. Just do a good content on that reddit post + maybe do some reputation linking to increase the chances over other reddit posts that talk about the same.

I tried for multiple months, unfortunately I just did not successed. I am curious if Backlinks may he helpful? Or if anyone has any real experience with this?

Backlinks will alone not help if you cannot control the content on that reddit page. I want to say that if replies are poor and there are other sites on first page with better content, it will be very hard to beat them.

I've ranked for 'XYZ reddit' long tails for years, its easy low hanging fruit.

Google won't rank it well without replies. If someone was trying this method, they would add the replies themselves using multiple accounts, and add keywords that indicate to Google that the replies are high quality. You would never just leave it up to chance, unless someone else beat you to it and actually did your job for you.

Thing is, I noticed that the threads that are actually ranked well had less comments than the other ones which at the bottom.

When checking for Backlinks on Semrush I couldn't find any. I am not sure what are the factors to rank or it's just luck?

Just like Quora, Reddit can also rank for underserved topics

Good question, it’s might be easier then regular website.
I didn’t tried that my self, maybe someone here have the experience with that.

About thread I can't say, but I saw many subreddits ranking good.

Yeah it's possible mate you can rank your Reddit link in the Google build backlinks as well as some quora links you can get some impressions i think

I was just searching this on google

coffee anxiety reddit

Look at the first result, at the number of replies and the extent of the replies, details.
I got all I needed to know from that. Search intent matches, dwell time for me was over 10 minutes.

Match that and it will rank.

Just did what you said and I see that the top comment has less messages and Upvotes compared the second and third comment. I am pretty sure besides the content it self there are additional factors
